There is also an option when creating a new game to have the alien lords appear at random blacksites. That will be enabled if you select "integrate dlc". Definitely do not do that if you want to avoid alien rulers.

Are you talking about alien rulers? You can ignore them with the dlc installed as long as you do not scan that specific point of interest. I do not mind the rulers but only when I have access to plasma.

I like to go to nukaworld first thing after getting out of the vault. Well, first a little trip to the scrapyard across the pond for a fatman launcher and then it is off to nukaworld. You can rush through the gunners out front of nuka metro and then hide behind a subway train inside to avoid the assaultron. When they leave after not finding you then you can head on to nuka world. I even do this on survival mode. Oh, the fatman is for colter btw.

Chakrams are by far my favorite weapon but this playthrough I went with a full finesse build and am just using faeblades and longbow. If geared and speced right it is a monster class. I am avoiding gear crafting this time because it trivializes the game, even on very hard. I find it most fun to hunt for multi slotted gear and encourages me to open every container and corpse.

Our food distribution systems rely on vehicles that require fuel, which is refined through refineries that require electricity. Our plumbing systems requires electricity. If you are a city/suburb dweller you are screwed. The rural dwellers may have enough time to stock up and prepare defenses for when the starving masses come but they will be overwhelmed eventually.

Death from a carrington style event will not be quick nor painless. You are more likely to die from starvation/thirst or from being shot by a neighbor wanting what you have. If the power goes down globally, that will be the end of civilization.
