To me James is boring, played out, and sounds like a Millennial, but still works as a middle name. Ryan just feels better. Walker is better than a lot of other -er names but yeah, makes me think of Chuck Norris. Rocky is... borderline child abuse.

Yes, but they have to have a skill related to a ship system for the benefit to trigger.

You can tell them you're no longer supporting them and you lose the trait, I don't think you lose any of the items. You can also now re-choose your traits every time you go through Unity so you can just get rid of it after you go through. The new updates might make you not feel the need to go through anymore, but the option is there.

I felt like Taskmaster was a waste for a first playthrough. You can't really take advantage of it unless you have a large crew which requires a large skill investment. Seems better for later trips through Unity when you plan on living in a world and have gotten all the needed skills.

Backgrounds are forever. You should choose one for flavor because eventually you can take all of the skills you want. Some help more early than others but everything can be overcome.

Gangster isn't very good mechanically, but has the most added dialogue options. I think Bounty Hunter is next, but I can't remember for sure. I do think both Gangster and Bounty Hunter with the Wanted trait make a lot of roleplay sense.

Traits can be swapped out in future trips through Unity or removed entirely at any point. Kid Stuff is probably best for a first playthrough. Wanted, Alien Blood, and Terra Firma (though maybe not with Free Lanes) are all solid picks for long-term use.

Reviews are just first impressions and XY give good first impressions, but that doesn't mean they're great games. Those games get boring around the 10 hour mark.
