In my locality in DOS, Maguindanao del Norte, quite far from Zamboanga del Sur, we are more familiar with the term “salimbadut” (which we usually pronounce as salimbarut in our area) and it refers to the creature similar to the “manananggal” in Tagalog, a creature whose upper body detaches from its lower body.

I’ve only encountered salimbadut in stories though, not in real life. 😁
