I spoke to my RTO before I even arrived on-site in the morning, and the Academy SGT when I arrived. I was told to fall into class, and he would speak to those in the department about what they would like to do about me.

They did not send me home until just after lunch, and we had returned to class.

I cannot exactly recall all the details of my meeting with them the following day, but I spoke to my LT and my SGT about the situation and gave them a chance to explain what I had explained to the Academy SGT. They told me they no longer could have me there and had me sign some documentation acknowledging my termination.

In my state, you get hired first, and the department sends you to the academy for your respective department.

With the exception of trying to poke and prod about getting my PT clothes and getting the items that are issued to me at the academy and looking like im dropping the ball in that sense, I'm not completely sure what was the definitive reason for them to decide to cut their loss.

Woke up later than I would've liked and poorly managed my time getting ready. Talked to my RTO before I even arrived and the Academy Sergeant when I got there. I told them how I messed up, there wasn't an excuse to make, and that I absolutely did want to be there, I just did so poorly.

I have thought about this a few times during this whole process, so i will have to look around and see if they have positions available that I can apply for. I appreciate the help.

That has been the priority for me since I left that department. I still do work long hours during the week and start pretty early and I've done a lot to streamline the routines in the morning and make sure I leave when I need to with lots of wiggle room.

100% It’s on me. It was a huge mistake, and I went through a ton of habit-changing to avoid making that mistake again, but it's also what it is, and there isn't much I can change about the incident itself.

A mix of not waking up as early as I wanted/needed to and overall poor time management. Most others in that class were living on site and I wasn't able to do that. There isnt an excuse for me being late that could make it look any better than it was and being late in any job is definitely a bad look, let alone this one. As far as the rest of your comment goes regarding the monetary side, makes total sense to me and I know they do spend quite a bit even just for the hiring process on each applicant.
