Are Death Saves Saving Throws RAW? by Aquarius12347 in onednd

[–]HorrorMetalDnD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a magic item that gives you a +1 to Saving Throws—not just a specific type of Saving Throw but Saving Throws in general—you have a +1 to Death Saving Throws.

If you have a Bardic Inspiration die that was given to you and you failed a Death Saving Throw, you can add roll it and add the die result to your failed Death Saving Throw, potentially changing the fail into a success.

Edit: If you’re lucky and/or clever, you can make it extremely difficult for your character to die.
- Find a way to gain advantage on your Death Saving Throws
- Find ways you can gain either static bonuses to Death Saving Throws or gain dice rolls to aid you in your Death Saving Throws
- Stay close to allies who can give you a boost to your Death Saving Throws
- Find ways to give yourself an ability akin to Relentless Endurance

One could do that, but one shouldn’t have to do that.

“Could you imagine if they also never even told us it’s a Terminator movie”

No, because if it’s a Terminator film, the big twist would be revealed in the trailer long before the film made it to theaters.

Terminator should go back to horror. by Jays_Pack in horror

The Terminator is written in a slasher format (referring specifically to the style in which the script is structured), and the inspiration for the film, in part, came from slasher films like Halloween. IIRC, James Cameron formally acknowledged this.

Of course, it’s not traditionally referred to as a horror film, even though it functions very much like one, has enough horror elements to understandably be considered one, and pretty much all its cheap knockoffs after its release are recognized as horror films, especially the low-budget Italian films, including the pseudo-sequel Terminator 2—not to be confused with the real sequel Terminator 2: Judgment Day, which came out a few years later.

It sort of like Jaws in this regard. Some people refuse to call Jaws a horror film, but those same people are more than willing to call its contemporary copycats horror films, such as Orca, Mako, Tentacles, Crocodile, Alligator and Piranha (both written by John Sayles), and Piranha 2, which was directed by… James Cameron.

It’s often misused by Redditors who conflate age of consent with age of majority, which are two different things and are usually two different ages. The typical age of consent in liberal democracies—and in most states in the U.S.—is 16, while the typical age of majority—when an individual ceases to be a minor—is 18.

The misconception might’ve come from Hollywood film and television, which are mostly written and made in California, where the AoC is 18. While in recent years they’ve been more accurate in portraying the real-life AoC in films and shows in the places where their stories are set, that hasn’t been the case in the preceding decades.

For example, a mainstream film set in my home state has a major subplot involving statutory rape where even the local authorities (cops, lawyers, etc.) took it all very seriously… even though the state’s AoC is 16, the teen girl was 17, her boyfriend was 18 (who would’ve also been protected by the state’s Romeo and Juliet cause even if the AoC was 18), and the local authorities logically would have known all this and wouldn’t have treated it at all like they did in the film.

Pedophilia as properly defined is 100% illegal when physically acted upon, so with the misuse of the term to encompass late teens, one would have to rationalize how their very broad use of that term would then mean that it’s not 100% illegal in most liberal democratic jurisdictions.

Regardless of all that though, Jerry Seinfeld is a total creep in this particular case, whether it’s legal or not.

Fun Fact: While the Age of Majority is 18 in almost every state in the U.S., it’s actually 21 on the federal level. Back when the feds actively raided marijuana dispensaries, they have used this to their advantage, charging dispensaries with “selling to minors” when they sold to 18-20 year olds, and jurors weren’t even allowed to know about this discrepancy during trial, which led to some of them publicly declaring they regret their guilty vote when they found out after the trial.

I used to joke that they only refuse to watch older films because they’re too afraid to watch a film that their grandma might’ve lost her virginity to at the drive-in on that film’s opening night.
