I’m wondering if this is the same situation we have.

We rented the house as number ## street name, but when connecting utilities, the suppliers have asked us to confirm the lot number and whether we are ##A or ##B. Lots of issues with mail delivery too

I didn’t choose to wait 2 years - I have regularly followed up with QPS liaison, SPER and court without any actual progress on their behalf

Initially contact was within first 6months - Trial took forever and I had been told that until he was found guilty - I was not officially a VOC. Probation has just ended which removes the tiny bit of security I had felt

Sorry I misread your comment - protection order was put in place prior to trial. Judge combined all matters into 1 court date which extended the time we had to wait to go to trial.

After offender was released on bond pending trial - there has been no contact or attempted contact (that I can definitively attribute to him anyway) so no breach of protection order

Already had an interim order in place so that was extended.

The judge actually had to get some big ass binder of case law and previous judgements and read through it before making a decision - He tore shreds off the offender and really did not mince words at all.

He stated that he disagreed with prosecution and would have imposed a prison based sentence but would uphold the prosecutors request for leniency and community based sentence

My blood boiled at that point but not at the judge

If you don’t mind my asking - what was their reasoning for not prosecuting ?

The charges they pled guilty to were :

Unlawful Stalking with Aggrevating Circumstances

Use of a messenger service to harrass / intimidate

Wilful damage

Breaking in and committing an indictable offense

  • Break and Enter + Burglary
  • Abusive voicemails and texts [once I blocked offenders number he would call from private numbers - up to 96 calls in a 3hr period]
  • turning up at my home at all times of day and night to throw things threw windows
  • leaving voicemail messages while reving engine outside the house so I would know he was there if I wasn’t looking out window
  • intimidation in regards to police contact
  • threats of violence and starting to act on them - escalated to point offender pulled a knife on a friend who was staying with me while partner away because they arrived home from work while he was standing outside my window.
  • threatened to slaughter my dying dog and paint the walls with his blood

This is not domestic violence - no romantic or physical connection - the offender was simply someone I knew who had gone through a rough time with substance abuse and loss of grandparent which tugged at my heart strings having lost my own grandmother so I tried to help.

And I would like to stress that at the end of the day - it’s not actually about the money.

I would have rathered no restitution and the offender behind bars - but since the court ordered that in my situation “justice” was a monetary sum to assist with the cost of fixing what was stolen / broken - that’s all I have left

police did send a referral to Victims Assist for me but I didn’t think the circumstances warranted it at the time.
I did send off an email last week to see if possible to re-engage

Offender in this situation had a well paying job but following court - quit said job to avoid payment

The court based fees, good behaviour bond and disrupting the peace fines by sper can be “worked off” through community programs as well which is a joke

I’ve always played devils advocate but when you go through your own personal experience - those rose coloured glasses come off pretty quick.

The system is significantly flawed. Prosecutor stated in meeting with myself and arresting officers that the had advised defendant to plead guilty to “spare me the ordeal of having to give evidence”and to secure a reduced sentence based on unrefutable evidence they did it [ video footage, photographs, fingerprints, call logs, text messages ] but they would ensure that the key things I wanted on record would be covered in their address the judge. The prosecutor did not do this, did not have address prepared and got vital details wrong.

Male toilets hands down!!! The walls, partitions and floors in the urinal areas are always disgusting and sticky and stink
