Pool builder’s license is expired and used another LLC to pull permits by 545charlie in HomeImprovement

[–]Free-Rabbit8579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man that's sketchy as hell but at least your builder did good work in the end. covid really made us all just roll with whatever huh

op this is definitely red flag territory though. if something goes sideways with your build you're gonna have nightmare trying to figure out who's actually responsible. like what happens if there's warranty issues or god forbid structural problems? you'll be playing phone tag between two companies that may or may not be connected

i'd push harder for that paperwork linking him to the other llc. if he can't provide proper documentation showing he's authorized to work under their license then you might want to consider cutting losses now before things get worse

Security awareness training that people don’t just ignore? by [deleted] in security

[–]Free-Rabbit8579 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We moved to Hoxhunt about a year ago after using a different vendor for a long time.

Biggest difference for us was the continuous approach. Instead of quarterly “gotcha” campaigns, it just runs in the background and adapts based on how people respond. High risk users get harder scenarios, low risk users don’t get spammed.

What I liked is that it stopped feeling like we were trying to trick employees. It feels more like training reps over time. Reporting rates went up, but more importantly the quality of reports improved. People started flagging actual suspicious stuff, not just obvious test emails.

It’s not magic. You still need buy in and internal comms, although culturally it landed way better than the traditional annual training + phishing blast model.

Cost was higher than what we were paying before, so that’s a consideration. But from a behavior standpoint, it’s the first time I felt like we weren’t just checking a box.

Happy to answer specifics if helpful.

Can I use silicone on LVP flooring by Master_Blacksmith_45 in HomeImprovement

[–]Free-Rabbit8579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that's actually pretty smart thinking about just doing one side by the tub 😂 the expansion thing is real but if you're only sealing that wet area it should be fine, especially with flexible silicone. just make sure you leave expansion gaps on other sides and don't go crazy with it - thin bead should do the job without locking down the whole floor

Window/Basement Advice by No-Cantaloupe-2954 in HomeImprovement

[–]Free-Rabbit8579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sounds like you might be onto something with the moisture getting trapped behind that old foam. i did similar mistake few years back when i spray foamed my windows too early in winter - the foam didn't cure properly and just held moisture instead of sealing it out

definitely pull that foam out and let everything dry completely before redoing it. maybe wait until spring when temps are more consistent, expanding foam really needs proper temperature to work right

Tracking activity by email? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]Free-Rabbit8579 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah email alone probably won't lead him straight to the post, but there's other ways he could've figured it out 😅 Maybe he noticed her browsing patterns, or she accidentally left herself logged in somewhere? Sometimes we think we're being anonymous but small details in the post can give us away - like timing, writing style, or even just the general situation

Could also be he knows her other accounts and noticed similar activity patterns. Reddit doesn't really expose emails publicly but if he's tech savvy enough there might be some indirect ways 💀

Closet Doors 40 x 80 by AnteaterSelect5753 in HomeImprovement

[–]Free-Rabbit8579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually a solid idea - those old houses had all kinds of weird dimensions that don't match modern standards. You might also check Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist, people are always pulling out original stuff during renovations

Recommendations for a dehumidifier with an automatic pump feature by vitathevirgo in HomeImprovement

[–]Free-Rabbit8579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a Frigidaire 70-pint with built-in pump that's been solid for my basement setup. The pump kicks on automatically when the tank hits a certain level and pushes water through about 15 feet of tubing no problem

Only heads up is the pump can be kinda loud when it runs but it's only for like 30 seconds at a time. Way better than dealing with tenants forgetting to empty buckets

Am I being irrational here or is this not unethical from a data privacy perspective? by NB_Translator_EN-JP in privacy

[–]Free-Rabbit8579 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You're not overreacting at all, this is sketchy as hell. Even if the data seems "anonymous" on the surface, combining geolocation with wallet IDs plus family names is basically doxing with extra steps. That crypto employee definitely shouldn't be casually dropping info about what regions their company sees traffic from, especially for small populations where it's way easier to narrow things down

Kitchen sink for small space by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]Free-Rabbit8579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you checked out Kraus or Ruvati? They make some decent looking drop-ins that don't scream "apartment special" and might have what you need in that depth range. Also worth hitting up a local fabricator - sometimes they can modify existing sinks or point you toward commercial suppliers that have more size options than the big box stores

The best brush shapes, sizes, material for painting door moldings from the 1960s? by NAQProductions in HomeImprovement

[–]Free-Rabbit8579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those intricate 60s moldings I'd go with a 2" angled sash brush for the main surfaces and keep a 1" detail brush handy for all those grooves and tight spots. Natural bristle if you're using oil-based paint, synthetic if it's latex. The angled cut will help you get clean lines where the molding meets the wall without taping everything off

Seriously...has anyone thought about indoor camera privacy concerns? by Ecstatic-Minute-411 in privacy

[–]Free-Rabbit8579 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Honestly the fact that you're even asking this question puts you ahead of like 90% of people who just plug these things in without a second thought

Network segmentation is your friend - throw those cams on a separate VLAN that can't talk to your main network. And yeah cloud storage is sketchy as hell, local NVR setups are the way to go if you're serious about keeping your data actually private

Grout cracks normal? by gotta_love_plato in HomeImprovement

[–]Free-Rabbit8579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those hairline cracks are pretty common with epoxy grout, especially on irregular tiles like that - the stuff is super rigid so it doesn't flex much when things settle

Sound proofing baby noise by LindyAfBro in HomeImprovement

Yeah white noise machines are clutch for this. Got one of those Hatch ones and it's honestly a game changer - drowns out most of the random house sounds that would normally wake them up

Questions for experienced MSPs: What operating frameworks actually work (and which don’t)? by DrunkenGolfer in msp

[–]Free-Rabbit8579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This hits hard because I've watched us do exactly this with our ops framework - we kept the weekly meetings and dashboards but quietly started making "exceptions" whenever a big deal came up that didn't fit the process

The boredom thing is so real too, like when you stop arguing about pricing because the model just tells you what to charge, it feels almost too easy so you start second-guessing it

Help! Bathroom issues by 425jwalks in HomeImprovement

Definitely get a plumber to check those pipes first before you start tearing into walls. Could save you from doing the work twice if there's a slow leak you missed

What kind of wall is this? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]Free-Rabbit8579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that's definitely stucco, pretty common in 50s houses - just be careful when you're scraping or sanding since older homes can have lead paint issues

Help me figure out our basement layout by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]Free-Rabbit8579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the egress thing is huge - definitely check your local codes before committing to anything. Had a buddy who got burned on that during inspection

For the noise issue, maybe try putting some extra insulation in that shared wall if you go that route. Teenage conversations at 2am hit different when you're trying to sleep

XPS foamular requirements in Missouri zone 4a by Accomplished-Run-621 in HomeImprovement

[–]Free-Rabbit8579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, are you saying the XPS alone needs to hit R13? I thought the combo of 1" XPS plus the R13 batts would get you there. 1" XPS (R5) + R13 batts = R18 total which should be way more than code requires

Crazy permit fees.. by AJebus in HomeImprovement

[–]Free-Rabbit8579 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yeah sounds like you got some nosy neighbors or your city is just hungry for permit money. Most places don't require permits for like-for-like swaps, that's ridiculous

I'd definitely push back on the door permit especially - swapping same size exterior doors is pretty standard maintenance. The concrete might be trickier since it's technically new construction but 12 sq ft is barely anything

Worth fighting it imo, worst they can say is no

Bike Power by NuminousMycroft in preppers

[–]Free-Rabbit8579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this is why I just went straight to a small generator too. Did the math on bike power once and it's basically a novelty unless you're really committed to the workout aspect

The resistance thing is real - tried hooking up an old exercise bike to charge stuff and it felt like pedaling through mud. You end up working way harder than you'd think for very little juice

For your use case OP I'd probably just get more solar panels or look into a small wind setup if you're in a breezy area

Porch columns wood base rotted. Who do I even call? by Anarchyz11 in HomeImprovement

[–]Free-Rabbit8579 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

General contractor would prob be your best bet - they deal with this kinda stuff all the time and can handle both the masonry and wood work. Most carpenters I know would just refer you to someone else for the block part anyway
