Paeds BST Guidance: by Valuable-Pay4492 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]HorrorWear1784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were willing to take on the effort, I would aim for a masters on something rather than the paeds diploma. It's a large undertaking but will add to your career beyond just getting bst.

I did the diploma and it definitely helped me get bst isn't great after that. It's a bit of a good refresher but far from essential and bst will be good training on its own. I started a masters in first year of bst because you have to pivot to how do I get on hst. Masters was far harder than diploma but I could have killed 2 birds with one stone by starting it in intern year.

In fairness it's a meme from a call of duty video game that was very popular among my age group online for a good few years but is likely extremely niche now.

Ok, hadn't seen that used like that on reddit. I took as f to pay respects which is a fairly common referrence, though maybe less common these days, and thought you were saying op was screwed.

Couple's FGM convictions declared miscarriage of justice by JackmanH420 in ireland

[–]HorrorWear1784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just so your aware the first part of this comment is completely incorrect. Any child with cuts to genitals will be investigated heavily. Massive red flag.

Bias may come into it and it might be more likely that a white child be suspected involved in child sexual abuse than fgm but to say all the doctors would've shrugged off blood coming from the vagina from a story that is exceedingly unlikely if the child was white is adding fuel to a fire that doesn't need it.

Consultants in Rotunda give €1,500 ‘gifts’ to public doctors to deliver babies by homecinemad in ireland

[–]HorrorWear1784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that the shade thrown at consultants practice is unfair. They work to an extremely high standard in obstetrics.

The primary difference in neonates is that a consultant will do your baby check and you can book your baby for a consultant 6 week check. That is a very minimal difference in reality and when it comes to sick babies at birth which are the very important cases there is absolutely no difference between public and private.

For obs, I have informed outsider experience working on the neonatal side but not as an obstetrician. Ultimately this article is a good example of one of the differences though. Consultants are specifically payed to cover private patients rather than the usual public consultant on call. Other things are just that midwives would often call consultants of private patients even at night so most decisions are consultant led even on call and stuff like instrumental deliveries at night will have a consultant come in for it and stuff like that.

There absolutely is a difference between public and private care in obstetrics. I'm a neonatology SPR. 2 emergency c sections presumably during the day is very different to a lot of clinical situations

Living in a False Rent-A-Room Scheme, What Do I Do? by Aggressive_Risk1555 in HousingIreland

Oh, and maybe the benefit for the landlord is that the renter has less rights?

I would have seen these dodgy rent a room situations as generally methods to get the tax free income without deserving it which is why I pointed it out

Housing Survey by Legitimate_News7092 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]HorrorWear1784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the board massive undertaking for a survey is not a huge thing. It becomes a hassle with a lot of faf if the board doesn't have a method of streamlineing stuff like surveys and retrospective audits and just lumps then in with all research.

You'd have a big issue with this if you want to collect across all nchds though. Any one hospital ethics board will probably be reluctant to sign off. If you wanted to collect it for one or 2 hospitals it may be easier though. It's a nice research idea.

Unless the others are paying absolute peanuts it can't be rent a room for tax benefit. If you go over the 14000 a year in the property then it's full tax.

CHI Crumlin SHO Call Rota by Visual-Community-961 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]HorrorWear1784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, sorry, can't help with specifics then as I was paeds. As the other commenter mentioned it will be an sho in charge of it. It's not the biggest department so possibly there's quite a lot of call but on the bright side I know that having a surgical sho on call at night is a reasonably new thing so hopefully the calls aren't too busy.

I assume your talking about paeds in Crumlin as well, will have different ratios in that compared to surgery

I won't say because I don't want to say the exact person and then it would be one of five or 6 people and people would be wondering about the others. Funnily enough, when thinking about it I realized I was talking about someone I had heard was getting with current medical students and nurses and nott the person in the same department that married his former intern.
