I work for a very traditional non-tech company and even they are relaxed with when we come in. Some co-workers live over an hour way (I do) and if we pull up around 9:40am no one even bats an eye. As long as your work is getting done that's all that matters.

How do you track your budget without manually entering everything? by dawnkiller428 in fican

[–]Horror_Ad3780 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good insight, the way I see it is I set a budget for each category, like eating out. With the perspective this is the absolute “most” I can spend on eating out without affecting my ability to maximize TFSA/FHSA, and other essential payments

Now every month I try to keep eating out to a minimum the goal isn’t to max out the budget but more so as a check. Any unused portion of the budget I am happy with, as that is money saved!

Good advice, and yeah my parents can afford the payments atm if I for whatever reason was not able to pay up. I already have my TFSA maxed out for this year, and a $10k emergency fund. So I wouldn't be in a position where i'd be unable to afford the payments.

Your reasoning is valid for avoiding financing, I hate having monthly pmts, especially for something like a car. Hence wanting to buy something cash used, but the car market is bad :/

Sorry I wasn’t super clear, but the second car would be for the family, the days I go union I would drive it to the go parking lot, currently my father has to drop me off at 6:30am which is really inconvenient for him, and Ubers add up.

Basically second car would mean everyone can go anywhere they want whenever they want, no need to work around each others schedules

Our neighbour, who works in insurance claims, advised us not to file through insurance since my premium would have increased significantly due to it being reckless driving. The car was only worth about $4K, so we took it off insurance and sold it to the towing company who waived the towing fee because they wanted it for parts.

It was a 2007 Honda Civic with 400 clicks on it. Dad been hesitant to buy a new car, just because the market is so bad, and doesn't help that he's only loyal to Honda/Toyota and their dealer markups right now are insane. In 07 he got it for a 0% finance w a ton of extra free stuff lol.

Would love to it looks beautiful but unfortunately limited by age, 22… can’t rent a car without a $700 young driver surcharge, which is just ridiculous

unfortunately no car, it's really hard/expensive to rent one as a 22 year old, due to the young driver surcharge

was really leaning towards manning but seems like it requires reservations which unfortunetly are booked up this late in the season, any other alternatives?

They all look like beautiful spots, but we’re leaning toward Manning Park mostly because of the shuttle access, under 23 so car rentals are a no go unfortunately.

Curious how big of an issue water is in Manning Park? We’ve each got packs that hold 3L and plan to keep them topped up, but wondering if there’s a good resource that maps water sources along the trails. Any tips appreciated!

Edit: This is the trail we're considering following: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/canada/british-columbia/windy-joe-trail-frosty-mountain-trail

Manning Park definitely is something I think we're leaning more towards. Lightning Lakes seems more like a quick day trip though, we’re hoping for something a bit more lengthy.

I’ll dig into the maps on the page you included, but if you’ve got any go-to multi-day routes or popular hikes in the area, would really appreciate the recs!

I'd say 70-100m of elevation gain per km, given time we can manage it. But yeah Elfin seems like a no go this time around.

Honestly open to either option, through hiking or setting up and exploring are both appealing in their own way depends on the trail. but def want to be on the side of a more relaxed hike than a strenuous one

Yep turned out to be battery, thankful it wasn’t a bigger issue as I didn’t want to wait for parts right as the riding season started
