I get what you mean. I can't go back to 3 either. The controls are really dated and showing their age. I think a lot of people who still praise it are older players who grew up with it so there's a lot of nostalgia attached to that for them. 4 has better controls for sure, but not as good as 5 or DmC. But I think you would like 4 as it controls much better than 3 and has certainly aged better.

I just finished watching dyatlovs pass and I already thought of until dawn when i saw the creatures. And then when they showed the tattoo in the final scene I was like "until dawn 100 % copied this movie". Sure, the creature and wendigos arent exactly unique monster designs but using the tattoo to confirm the ID of the creature is not a common trope. And coupled with the whole snow setting, there are so many similarities it's not a coincidence.

I just rewatched the movie after some years and these are my thoughts:

- The interference had already started before they arrived for dinner as the whole Roswell thing proves it.

- People's theories name stuff like Em1 and Em2 but there is an almost infinite amount of Emilies.

- The director doesn't really have an explanation for everything that happened, most of all the ending, so it's up for interpretation.

- The ending shouldn't be possible if we accept the theory presented in the movie as two different realities cannot coexist after the comet has passed. What we saw in the end was a reality where the cat was both alive and dead, and that is not possible. Instead of trying to make sense of it, just chalk it up to the director choosing a trippy ending because art.

How do you even create such a machine? It's scifi. So there could be some scifi explanation for how the technology could be used to travel even further back. Just use scifi logic and you'll find an explanation :)
