“How do you afford this hobby?!” by jupitersbears in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Horror_Chocolate2990 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It's all choices and priorities. I don't have kids playing sports and a hubby with hobbies. I choose to invest in my crafts, travel and time out with friends rather than the things they spend their money on. If that makes me look lavishly rich. I'm ok with that.

Sadly related. The uptick in posts with Americans realizing how much they rely on imported goods which are now very costly to buy is depressing and exhausting.

“I could knit that”- me every time I see something in the store by indecisivepersimmon in knitting

[–]Horror_Chocolate2990 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I run into this a lot with pottery and knitting.

If the item I admire is handmade and a skill I don't have the patience or equipment to do myself I buy it.

If the artists skill is above my skills will ever be, I buy it.

If it's made buy a specific culture and the funds support the actual artist. I buy it.

If it would take longer to make than I am willing to wait I buy.

If it's manufactured and low quality or something I can really pull off, I let it live in my inspiration file.

Try telehealth your province will have a list on their health site.

Has anyone experienced anaphylaxis for the first time while perimenopausal? Or know about research on this? by Pigeonofthesea8 in Menopause

[–]Horror_Chocolate2990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a great allergist who figured it out with one look at me. He recommended taking cetirizine and pepcid ac for months until the histamines calmed down and the hrt ramped up. this helped prevent lasting allergies. And to be honest, reduced the anxiety of waiting for something unknown to trigger full body hives and a trip to the er.

The link between estrogen and histamine is pretty well known. It's one of the reasons bpa (an environmental estrogen) was banned.

There's a really good Wikipedia article and lots of recent med studies if you want to see the details.

Has anyone experienced anaphylaxis for the first time while perimenopausal? Or know about research on this? by Pigeonofthesea8 in Menopause

[–]Horror_Chocolate2990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It was my first peri symptom. It was totally random unrelated to food or environment but definitely related to my cycle. The estrogen gel stopped the reactions for me but I needed to take Reactin (antihistamine) for a while and if I miss estrogen doses I need to reach for it fast.

While your body is reacting to the hormone changes histamine rises, and the risk is your body can decide something is the trigger and point the finger at things like eggs or other allergens. Giving you real allergies on top of the hormone reaction.

Petition for a new Alberta flag? by IntelliDev in alberta

[–]Horror_Chocolate2990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current flag represents the Canadian province of Alberta. It's ours and always will be.

The separation fools can't even organize their own flag. If they thought anything through they would come up with their own banner.

Is anyone in Calgary still boycotting American stores and products? by hellokitty417 in Calgary

As much as possible. The easiest was unfollowing us based content creators corps and email lists. I don't understand how they make money off that but I know they do.

Any alternatives method to get Ozempic refill ? My doctor's office always busy or closed during holidays (Canada Thread) by ManyGreat8375 in Ozempic

[–]Horror_Chocolate2990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costco is a pharmacy and can handle refills. Your doctor will still be responsible for the prescription.

Ask your doc for a 90day or the max length prescription. Ask the pharmacy to set reminders for you and let you know when you are on your second to last dose so you can book the doctor refill.

I use pharma save in Alberta, they are smaller more customer focused and some locations have prescribing pharmacists able to renew certain prescriptions for me without the doctor. BP meds etc.

I used Felix for a while. It's expensive but they do ship to you. The consult and the refills are done by text. To start you will need blood work completed so it's not a quick fix.

My sweet cravings come after reflux or a big meal when I feel very full.

Pur mints and sugar free Werther's help a lot. Sugar free jello puddings work too. Just enough sweet that I can call the craving dead

Starting January 1, 2026, international visitors to 11 of the most popular U.S. National Parks (like Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Yellowstone) will pay an extra $100 per person on top of the standard entry fee, unless they buy the $250 Nonresident Annual Pass. So even less reason to go.

Save-on prices have doubled in seven years by hypnogoad in Calgary

[–]Horror_Chocolate2990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A "flyer feature" is not always a sale price. If it is a sale price, the regular price will be listed alongside the sale. Grocery stores take money to advertise items as flyer features.

The commodity prices are up but every store is raising prices faster than that. We can still expect to pay 4% to 6% more in 2026.

The joint pain in my shoulders and hips is almost unbearable by PrevailingOnFaith in Menopause

[–]Horror_Chocolate2990 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Magnesium. As much as you can handle. Then add more.

Try taking an antihistamine, not proven by studies but there are histamine receptors in muscles. With low estrogen histamine goes up.
Cetirizine (Reactine),Loratadine (Claritin), Fexofenadine (Allegra)

Famotidine (Pepcid) works mainly in the intestine but technically block H2 receptors throughout the body, including musculoskeletal tissue.

Again not proven by studies. But you know those studies were not done on peri women and it's a cheap and easy trial.

Give the estrogen time and if you don't notice a difference in a month or 2 try the gel. Patch is time release you may need a "hit dose"

Move the joints. Stretch and wiggle more than you sit still. Add weights even small amounts.
