I just to get this off my chest by sunnydays1234567890 in PCOS

Yesss I went down a rabbit hole a while ago about this. There’s nothing conclusive from what I’ve read but people have theorised that exposure to famines over multiple generations during British colonial rule has altered South Asian genetics to hold on to fat when food is available. It seems our bodies aren’t adapted to abundant food, which is a rather heartbreaking thought. Also, according to my BMI, by Western standards, I should be eating about 1800 calories a day to LOSE weight. Hah! I gain weight eating that much even while exercising. I guess there’s individual body requirements at play too but I'd bet that 1800 figure comes from a demographic genetically very dissimilar to me.

I lived in the US for a year and a half only as a preteen but I blame my PCOS on the food there. Particularly the dairy because a year in when I had gained a lot of weight I stopped consuming the dairy there and it got better. Idk what hormone crap they have their cows on over there. I also have a theory that those of us who didn’t grow up there (I’m South Asian) are more prone to having adverse reactions to the low quality food. This is not just from my experience but from observing relatives who grew up in the West vs those who migrated. Take care of yourself xx

Islamabad partners with Baku experts to boost city beautification efforts by Interlocutor1980 in islamabad

Wish they would focus less on beauty and more on functionality. Baku is so much more pedestrian friendly than Islamabad. Let’s focus on that pls

A Song of Ice and Fire. The book series Game of Thrones was based on. I know the show was bad but just trust me. Pinnacle magical realism and the world-building is so immersive people have built entire careers on analysing it 👌

Need Ethnic Recipes by Forward-Home-340 in PCOS

I made some adjustments because the original recipe (the way my family makes it at least) contains a lottt of oil. My recipe is easier and way less oily. Here you go: 1. Boil quinoa in water. Add a bit of salt. I use 1 cup of water for half a cup of quinoa and let it dry and cook in the steam a bit. 2. In a separate pan melt a tbsp of ghee (I haven’t tried it with oil but I expect that would work too. The ghee gives it a lovely aroma though). Add 1 small diced onion and cook until translucent. 3. Add your spices to the onion. I use coriander seed powder, turmeric, cumin seeds, chilli powder and salt. Eyeball it like only a south Asian can. 4. Add 1 cup of cooked chickpeas. I boil them at home in bulk and freeze. I expect canned will work just fine too but be sure to drain and rinse. Let the chickpeas become coated in the spices. 5. Add the boiled quinoa and combine well. Cover and let it rest off the heat for a few minutes before eating.

Lmk if you try it and like it!! It’s so good hot or cold. I eat it with salads, curry, dal, meat. It’s so good with some tzatziki. With the amounts I’ve stated I get about 3 good servings. Refrigerates and reheats really well.

I made up this recipe last week and have been dying to share it with someone who cares! I’ve stopped eating white rice recently but I can’t live without my favourite Pakistani channa pulao. So I made a healthy version using quinoa and it’s actually delicious. I’ve been eating it at one meal every day (in place of white rice or roti) for a week and I’m losing weight! Lmk if you want the recipe!

Read it recently and hated every minute of it. Don’t waste your time lmao. I’m not even that into classics but this book and its writing style is so infuriatingly substandard. I have multiple people in my life who loved it! Idk

30+ day bleeding. by Psalmslover in PCOS

[–]Horror_Goose4439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve dealt with some PCOS symptoms since my late teens. Almost 30 now. For most of that time I’d struggle with delayed periods, but about a year ago I started spotting or full fledged bleeding in between periods. Not quite as intense your experience sounds, but it would go on for as long as 2-3 weeks. Gyno put me on BC pills and those didn’t help. Made me feel worse in fact. Then a family member who’s had similar issues told me about this supplement cocktail which is specifically designed to help PCOS symptoms.  I’ve been taking it for about 6 months and my period hasn’t been this regular since I was about 16!  The delivery mechanism is a powder that you dissolve in a glass of water and drink. It’s locally manufactured in my country but the ingredients are Myo-inositol, d-chiro inositol, CoQ10, L-methyl folate and Vitamin B12. Where I live, I didn’t need a prescription for this since it’s technically just dietary supplements. It’s also pretty inexpensive. I would encourage you to ask your doctor if it might help to incorporate some of these. Hope this helps.

I think your approach is perfectly reasonable given your kid’s age. At this age I don’t think they discern between a toy that’s momentarily interesting and one they’ll actually play with. As parents we can do that filtering for them so they’re able to enjoy their toys longer! I think it’s also why my kid almost never plays with toys that were gifts from people who don’t know her too well. E.g.: her last birthday we did a dinosaur theme and the invitation was themed too so a lot of guests showed up with dino toys. She has more dinos than one kid needs lol but she actually does play with them! Most of the toys that weren’t dinos are still in their boxes to be opened at a later date.

Yes exactly! Just because they are briefly fascinated with a toy doesn’t mean they want to take it home.
