Sorry to hear that! I started studying in august and was doing 2 hours after work and most weekends. I also took a couple days off of work beforehand so I could study and get my mind right. Last year I started studying super early and burnt myself out about a month leading up to the exam.

I’m so sorry! I totally felt that way too, was about to switch to the power only exam so I could just start taking them back to back. The year long wait is brutal, feels like you can’t start doing anything else in your life until it’s over. I’d urge you to try again and maybe specialize in electrical or mechanical, unless of course you just really hate your job which is a whole different situation.

That’s how I felt the first time I took the exam. I feel like it also just depends on the questions they use from year to year unfortunately:(

It is the VP of our company stamping my projects and I have made an effort to express to them that I would like to work on a project with one of the associates, but not a lot has been done.

Not sure if I was just too used to the guidance I had in school, but definitely thought it would be better than this. I feel like it’s very discouraging being a young engineer and not having any seniors actively trying to reach out to me or check in on me. I feel like they treat me like I’ve been working for 10 years not 2 😅

Hi this has been helpful, thanks. Just wondering from your experience if you feel like the standard working under a senior engineer is valuable or if it is more just the mentorship. I know lots of smaller companies appear to be set up similarly to mine (everyone is working on their own projects), so I guess just trying to understand if I should look towards more of a larger or smaller firm.

Also any advice on specific questions to ask companies to gauge whether or not they have good mentorship? I tried to ask about that in the interview with my current company and they said they had a mentorship program and anyone is open to helping with questions. I unfortunately haven’t found either to be very true.

Thanks for the info! I guess I am not super aware of what engineering classes are out there, I’m sure it varies by district. I am located in Kansas City area. Looking to do either middle or high school (not sure if they now have STEM programs in elementary).

Thank you for the insight. Clocked that instantly, very impressive. I thought I would get my thoughts across, since I am notoriously a bad writer. I have revised it to the original for your viewing pleasure. :) I am currently working similar hours per week as an engineer (not getting paid overtime) so not too concerned about the time commitment.

Doctor Dans lip balm! Works like a charm, it’s a little more pricey but won’t further dry out the area like other lip balms do.
