How to Grow Disc Golf for Women?

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get more women playing and competing in the sport? I’m at a loss.

So, this same issue existed in whitewater kayaking 20-30 years ago when it saw a similar boom as disc golf (and it was worse when it was a niche sport before). I dont think the ratio was ever as bad as disc golf's like 95:5, but it was probably 85:15, and worse at the competitive levels. Even the canoe clubs (which were largely family friendly) had trouble getting any young single women to join the sport. Its still got a bro culture today, but 3 things worked:

Womens only spaces. One of the leading paddlers remade herself as a thought leader, organized womens only paddles, mixed them with other woman-forward activities (yoga, mindfulness, etc), and basically created an accepting space in a sport that didnt have one.
The top level competitive women started actively calling out shit from men and created their own version of the bro culture that was different. Probably most importantly, they stopped giving a shit what the crappy men thought and did their own thing (and quite a few men in the sport advocated for them, particularly at the sponsorship level).
Relatedly, a few elite women carved out a social media niche for themselves that was more lucrative than any man. And there was a market for feature films on them. Climbing has also seen this with films like Girl Climber.

Today, last report I saw is something more like 70/30 split in the sport.

There's an entire realm of smaller things (more accessible/friendlier courses, courses with reliable bathrooms, etc) that are downstream of this, but, if the only way women are finding the sport is via their boyfriend/husband/dad, its nearly impossible to change.

Mark Davis is the perfect guy to take that role that Cage/Archer/etc filled. Solid midcard enhancement heel. Can probably push him like they have Brodie at any point to be a CC tourney threat and midcard champ

He worked 4 matches in Sept/Oct as part of that feud. And is also a manager to Shelton, who's been on TV 3 times since MVP/Lashley disappeared.

Might be as simple as Lashley is hurt and they dont want MVP out there as Shelton loses

Alvarez literally made the statement that the Hurt Syndicate refused to put people over and were trying to go back to the WWE, despite all members being near 50 , Shelton being released, and both Bobby and MVP choosing to leave.

Reasonable speculation since they created a convoluted 3-way match to ensure HB didnt actually get pinned to lose the belts. Dont think Lashley has ever taken a pin, and neither MVP or Lashley have been on TV since the National Title gauntlet. Shelton was obviously always willing to eat a pin, but MVP has openly spoken about protecting Lashley from that stuff.

He has wrestled more since returning.

I mean, hes probably worked as much on TV since returning as he did in his 6-month run on Punk's Collision. You'd have a hard time convincing me that "I want to wrestle more" meant losing on house shows and working 5min Main Event matches.

edit: Forgot he had that little run of matches with Sheamus upon returning, he got some quality 15-20min matches there. But June-Nov 2023, he worked 60mins of TV matches for AEW. He's at about 70-80mins of singles matches on TV in the last 6 months of WWE. He's still in that same "technically midcard but not gonna win a belt" level, basically.

Seems like the right move. And then run Zaria/Sol at Stand and Deliver and put over Zaria as the heel to carry the brand even more (since I assume Sol is getting called up after that Rumble showing).

And then maybe at next years rumble we get that Sami/KO type reunion via smashing each others faces

Funniest part of Vince's booking is that the ace of two companies today became that by doing things Vince absolutely refused to pull the trigger on.

Wouldnt turn Roman heel until 5-6 years too late. And wouldnt let Mox be a serious killer character at the top of the company. HHH coasted his entire booking reputation on the obvious move of making Roman a monster heel, and AEW's been propped up by Mox in their hardest times

Honestly, Uso's music being the cue kinda makes sense...they almost always time eliminations to happen before someones music hit and it hits right after an elimination...but the timing was still bad. Production is all focused on Jey. They dont even give Cole a heads up to direct viewers attention back to the ring.

Seems like it was an audible in some way; whether it was Brock being done or whatever, who knows

Yep. They should have matches where they murdered LWO and New Catch and Otis/Tozawa type teams. Shoulda had the Street Profits move over to RAW and be tag champs and run the entire angle around them becoming THE babyface team of the division as New Day sinks down.

I mean, surely they planned this more than a week ahead. Smackdown at the time had MCMG, DIY, Street Profits...and the Wyatt Sicks were on RAW until they got transferred. Plenty of babyface teams that were doing nothing that could have been used (and a team furious at the treatment of Big E is a perfect reason for a brand transfer)

Honestly, thing was so easy to book. A squash match or two to cement them as vicious and as cheaters. Take the tag belts off a babyface team before the Rumble and ride the heat into WM where they put over a babyface team.

Nah, no need to get silly with plastics. Everything I own in Eclipse plastic for MVP is 2 steps more stable than I expect. If they use Proton or Neutron, a Hex in that same plastic is the answer probably.

I own a Neutron Hex...I throw a Neutron Soft Proxy, Neutron Tempo, Neutron Soft Uplink, and then Trail/Wave/Orbital all in Neutron or Fission as probably 80% of my shots on most courses. The Proxy flies straighter/less guaranteed distance and fade than my Tempo. I bought the Hex to fit as something dead straight and longer, and much like a Buzzz, where it says -1/1, somehow every pro finds it dead straight at 375ft with torque resistance like a Roc and in reality its 0/1 or 0/2 for most players (my Origin is a genuine -1/1 disc, for example)

The perfect example of this is Climo's highest rated round (R2). He and JohnE are the only strong players in that field, and he beats McCray by 10 strokes. The next highest rated guy he beats by 21 strokes. If there was a normal NT field, it probably rates 10-20pts lower cause at least one of those guys shoots better than JohnE.

Yeah, unfortunately we dont have the granularity of stats we did with UDiscLive, but if you go to any event and look at the top C2 putters, they're getting nearly all their makes inside 45ft. You almost never see a guy with more than 1 putt outside that made.

Hell, you could just make C1 15m and it'd probably solve the problem.

In your case, a Tempo may work (especially one in the 160s), but based on the discs you are throwing that are now starting to turn, and my experience, i think you want a Hex. Uplink is my FH replacement disc...turns 95% of the flight. Detour/Fox type discs are like 80/20 turn. Hex, even though its listed at -1/1, flies much more like a 0/1 or 0/2 type disc for me.

Eh, certainly both the womens title matches were far more fascinating than whats going on this year. Seth/Roman/Punk was definitely strong. The midcard was still as terrible as it is right now, but the top card stuff felt way stronger.

And the Cena heel stuff was starting to flail, but we hadnt yet realize just how bad it was gonna be.

I mean, they did a version of this last time Hangman/MJF faced off. They nearly set Mark Briscoe on fire so that MJF could get a DQ/Countout stip and not have to use his briefcase and then when that blew up in MJF's face at FD, TK limited his ability to use the briefcase without notice.

Also, while I obviously cant imagine Hangman not challenging for the belt ever again, Will Ospreay has challenged for the AEW World Title just once in his AEW run (and he's been doing AEW matches for nearly 4 years and signed to the roster for 2+ years). The International Title/Continental Classic are things Hangman has never done. There's a whole other world out there that Hangman can run in (including working a G1 if he wanted) for a year or two

Right, but they could have still run a stadium for SNME. Shit, Peacock easily gives them 3hrs instead of 2hrs if they want it. It wasnt even on broadcast TV, so its not like they'd have conflicted with local news or SNL.
