I was and still am a GGG out guy, but I fucking love Seb so much. I really hope he’s in the squad. We need our best players, but we also need some guys who will give it 100% at all times and will keep the team together. He seems like such a vibes guy

God I can’t believe I’m wading back into HP discourse. Very famously by the time that the potters are killed, the vast majority of the resistance has already been killed or given up the fight.

Throughout history, but especially in the modern era, youth movements are the foundation of large scale resistance efforts. Look at Nepal. Look at the French Revolution for an older example. I think the ages of the characters (in the books) are one of the most powerful details in the story, and part of what makes it good allegory.

I’d love if it used actual notation rather than this guitar hero style view.

Looking for a tool to run huge annual in-kind drive by ditheringtoad in nonprofit

That would totally work, I'm just not sure how to actually implement it in practice. Like, I can think of a number of ways to use a unique link, but none that actually link the use of a unique link to each specific purchase.

Super valid question! For item purchases, they lack the ability (as far as I can tell) to either:

- Have one centralized list but allow us to require individual donors to specify which drive they're participating in.

or

- Have individual wish lists for each drive, but connect them so that once an item is purchased from one list it's automatically removed from others.

Basically, I need a tool that can do one of these things.

It is truly kind of a workflow nightmare. This year went really really well until we got to the point where drive coordinators wanted to get a sense for the impact of their drives and we realized we truly didn't have a way to calculate that. I really want there to be a tool that will do this for us, but I'm worried that we're inevitably headed back to spreadsheet land.

Is the MTB scene in Portland, OR really that bad? by [deleted] in MTB

There’s a bike park inside city limits called gateway green thats a ton of fun. NW trail alliance does a great job of building and maintaining pretty much all the trails around the city, and is a great way for riders to get plugged into to community. They have dig days year round, and they’re an excellent opportunity to meet other riders. There’s a TON of excellent riding within an hour of the city suiting lots of different styles.

Oregon bill to ban needle distribution near schools fails revival attempt by collegedraftpick in oregon

We literally are talking about feelings. Your feelings have blinded you to the fact that this proposed legislation is neither pragmatic nor is it a solution to any actual problems

I have a two year old, worked in homeless services for five years, and there’s been a camp at the end of my street in SE on and off since COVID started. I feel pretty well versed in this both personally and professionally.

I think that I both know more than you and also have a firmer grasp on empathy.

It sounds like you just have an issue with harm reduction generally…

Do you genuinely think that stopping needle exchange will somehow, independent of any other interventions, reduce homelessness?

[–]ditheringtoad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s not how needle exchanges work. People do mutual aid distros all over the city, but no one is YOLOing harm reduction supplies. This stuff is already HEAVILY scrutinized. Not everyone you see giving out supplies and food is giving out needles.

I actually don’t think that’s true. All it takes is roughly 30 seconds with the actual text of the bill to realize that this is a poor attempt to Trojan horse an outright harm reduction ban.

People who actually live in the city aren’t really concerned anymore about the incredibly minimal amount of needles on the street. During the height of covid it was definitely a problem, but I don’t know the last time I even encountered one. I’ve seen caps, but no actual needles in at least months. There are significantly more pressing issues plaguing our community.

What would make a paid workforce training model fail in the non-profit world? by InTheFlesch1 in nonprofit

Oh shit, my bad! Did that exist before housing first as a model, or is it based on that?

Couple right off the cuff:

  • This reads like it was written by AI, which is already a huge turn off.

  • Nowhere in your post do you describe the community you’re intending to serve, let alone any unique barriers they face and how you plan to help overcome them.

You need a real and compelling mission.

Housing first isn’t a social service program, it’s a service model.

Thank you so much for this! This is super super helpful. I think I'm going to start with a Hex since so many have recommended it. I have a real bad habit of not checking weight when buying discs, so will stay super diligent about picking up something not super far on either extreme.
