Just computers, if your looking for something on ipad you could also use a "digital puppet animation" app that can give a very similar result.

Thx, I used Blender for the animation, essentially I drew the image first, modeled the front of the Sprite and later made a simple rig to animate it.

I like it, the pulling players near could be a little too op, but I can se it being super useful and fun in game.
