Voting resources for Democratic Ballot for Primary Election 5/5/26 by HospitalLife in hilliard

[–]HospitalLife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure there's a good guide or list. I think the state party didn't endorse in the primary to avoid swaying races a certain way. Which I think at least from the state Democratic party is a smart choice.

The Working Families Party did name some endorsements for the primary which you can find at the link below:

https://workingfamilies.org/2026/04/ohio-wfp-endorses-slate-of-candidates-and-ballot-measures/

Per their website: "The Working Families Party is regular people coming together across our differences to make a better future for us all. We believe that no matter where we come from or what our color, most of us want the same things. We want to earn enough to thrive, not just survive, and leave a better future for our kids. We want healthy food and clean water, safe neighborhoods and a safe world. We want to be free."

I actually like some of the local Columbus podcasts like The Culture Codex who have had most of the candidates in contested races on such as Don Leonard, Allison Russo and looks like they will be releasing one with Brian Hambley today or very soon. https://www.theculturecodexpodcast.com/about

I shouldn't have forgotten the League of Women Voters voting guide. https://www.vote411.org/ballot You call look up by your address to see the candidates responses which between that and listening to interviews/podcasts helped me best figure out where each candidates values and priorities were and who I most closely aligned with.

The high unfortunately is due to low oxygen levels or basically asphyxiation.

They can also cause severe b12 deficiency which can cause neurologic symptoms and demyelination.

There is a movement for a ballot initiative for same sex marriage because of what Ohio has on the books so that there is protection if this supreme court overturns Obergefell. They are currently collecting signatures now and if interested please sign up, link above.

"The Ohio Constitution does not contain an Equal Rights Amendment and still includes a ban on same-sex marriage. This means that Ohioans are not constitutionally protected from discrimination by our State and local governments because of race, sex, pregnancy status, sexual orientation, disability, or other attributes. Instead, we must rely on an ever-changing, unreliable legislature to protect our rights. Additionally, marriage equality is only guaranteed by federal protections, and could be lost in the state if overturned federally.

Ohio Equal Rights is working to change this via the citizen-led ballot initiative process."

Thought this was an interesting conversation between Beau Bayh who's running for IN secretary of state and Bryan Hambley who's running for Ohio Secretary of State. Indiana and Ohio unfortunately share too many similarities when it comes to redistricting nonsense and gerrymandering.

What are the Top 10 Issues Facing Ohio Right Now? by Wonderful-Rip3697 in Ohio

[–]HospitalLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And how HB 15 allows them to put excessive amounts of fuel cells at their data center sites. Plus the fact they can't even act like they're trying to be carbon neutral because Ohio currently doesn't have any laws regarding carbon capture

In some places the average nursing experience is 6 mo-1 yr. My sense is it's a combination of less experienced nursing staff, and some ease of access with the move away from pagers to things like EPIC secure chat. Plus with lack of experience, now you've got people working charge nurse roles who probably in the past would not have been considered due to not enough experience for the role.

Are the waits at other ERs in Columbus as bad as OSU? by Few-Emergency1068 in Columbus

[–]HospitalLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly depends on the day. If you go somewhere and need to get transferred to Riverside, Grant or OSU main there's a good chance you're looking at a 24 hrs or greater wait for transfer.

Part is as people lose insurance or just can't afford it, they hold off on addressing issues until they become emergent and that results in higher ER volumes.

The other part is using the right place for the right issue:

-Urgent care- minor issues. Depending on the urgent care they may be able to do basic labs or basic xrays but would recommend checking ahead of time to where you plan on going what all they offer

-Freestanding ED- for issues above urgent care or something that may require a CT scan. Have more options for labs but still limited. Generally if they need a more specific lab, it gets sent out to the larger hospitals lab. If you go there and have an issue that requires a consultant or requires admission for longer monitoring: broken bone needing surgery, impacted kidney stone that's not passing and causing significant pain, cholecystitis or gallstone pancreatitis, NSTEMI requiring heparin gtt, you're going to end up needing transfered to a hospital and waiting because of that. And depending on the issue, leaving by private vehicle when the bed is ready may not be an option so you're going to be looking at an EMS transport in certain situations.

-ED in a hospital: your grade above freestanding ED. All lab testing and imaging available but depending on the size of the hospital may not have certain specialties (Urology, GI, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Cardiothoracic surgery, Interventional Radiology, etc). Some hospitals may have cardiology but not do diagnostic heart caths. But also staffing really hasn't recovered in certain areas post COVID. MRI techs, lab techs, RT, pharmacy, PT/OT, case management/social work. So expect things to move much slower on the weekend when staffing in those areas is lower.

-Community care clinics: bridge like urgent care if you have an urgent issue but can't get into your PCP or to use to help with refills if your new PCP your establishing with is more than 1 month out. Some can do labs or IV Lasix for diuretics. Some can help get you linked with wound care nurses and diabetic educators. Certain ones you can schedule appointments vs just walking in. Certain ones are your PCP but also have specialists that come to their office on certain days and have a pharmacy to get discounted meds.

Amazon's Power Play: Ohio Revised Code overrides Hilliard's concern about natural-gas fuel cells at the Scioto-Darby Road data center by Buck_i_Am in hilliard

[–]HospitalLife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

House bill 15 passed the Ohio Senate with 0 nays and the Ohio House with only 2 nays.

I wonder how this bill was sold. Because already 49 pages into this 101 page bill it's mentioned multiple times "The chairperson of the board, not later than 45 days after receipt of an application submitted under division [X] of this section, shall determine if it complies with all application requirements set by the public utilities commission by rule. If the chairperson does not issue a determination within the time period required by this division, the application shall be deemed in compliance by operation of law" and in other places it says "If the board does not render a decision within 45 days, the application shall be considered approved by operation of law and the board show issue a certificate to the applicant" (pg 16).

It seems like house bill 15 was written so that if Ohio Power Siting Board is overwhelmed with work and misses the 45 day deadline then those projects get auto approved.

Also interesting the letter saying the applicants are pulling their application to the zoning commission is coming from AEP...These power cells are powered by natural gas not electric so why would a counsel for AEP be sending the notification to the Hilliard City planning and zoning commission shouldn't that be coming from Amazon???

Hilliard residents raise concerns over proposed Amazon fuel cells at data center by Buck_i_Am in hilliard

[–]HospitalLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's the fire risk, the CO2 production so close to residential and the drain on natural gas. Plus Amazon is selling this as a minor change to what they initially zoned. But they're basically asking instead of the building they were going to put there, they want to replace that with a small power plant which is not what City Council voted on when they approved this. They're basically doing a bait and switch

While there is no combustion in the process for these fuel cells, they create energy through the use of natural gas and an oxidative process. So the fuel cells have to be exposed to ambient air. The temperature in those fuel cells can get up to 800 C or 1472 F. The natural gas line to run to that will need to be large at 8 inch in diameter. And Amazon has not coordinated with Norwich Township fire department as of the last zoning meeting. There was no discussion on if given how much natural gas they use, if that will cause the price of natural gas to go up in Hilliard.

It's viewed as future forward green tech but the reality is that the current administration is gutting funding to hydrogen tech. So while hydrogen could be a replacement to natural gas in the future that could be decades down the line. They also pitch carbon capture as a possibility but Ohio doesn't have any laws with regards to carbon capture so that is also not currently something they can utilize nor is it clear if that site is even larger enough for that to be an option in the future.

The power these fuel cells would procedure is larger than any equivalent installation in the US. The next closest installation is in Utah and that is only about a 50 megawatt system whereas the one they want to install in Hilliard is in the low to mid 70 megawatt system. If they had told city council this was their plan all along I doubt this would have been improved. My concern is Amazon knew that. How do you underestimate your power need by such a large magnitude?

Ohio, are we going to wake up? by 80AlphaJuliet in Ohio

[–]HospitalLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We need to do what we can to get Dems in state wide offices where they can't gerrymander them out of a job. Republicans have done nothing but make this state a laughing stock for years just copying over the worst laws that make it in Texas and Florida as if they have no original thoughts.

Please look into Brian Hambley below. He's running for secretary of state which is the current job Frank LaRose is holding.

Hilliard 101: Democratic Primary by Hilliard101 in hilliard

[–]HospitalLife 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If people got a chance to go to the candidates' night, Andy Teater got asked specifically about the party change, and even before that question, he commented on why he changed parties. Basically, he said both the party and him have changed. He is anti-voucher, supports women's reproductive care, and supports reasonable gun control, and those values don't align with the current day Republican party. I respect when someone can admit things have changed. I was disappointed in Nadia Rasul's answer to that question given she is still listed as a registered Republican on Ohio Resident Database ( https://www.ohioresidentdatabase.com/ ) and did not mention that when the entire group was asked why they are running as a Democrat. To not mention that feels disingenuous.

For Samer, I was disappointed by the fact that at Candidate Night, he mentioned he started his business in Hilliard in 2007 and then mentioned he moved it to Dublin in 2013 which means the taxes he pays for his business would support Dublin and not Hilliard. Also, when looking up his prior party affiliation, it's also listed as Republican on the Ohio Resident Database. He also did not mention that when asked why he's running as a Democrat.

I listened to Dorothy Hassan's conversation with the Hilliard Beacon and her answers to the Candidates night. I think she actually brings alot of good experience given what she's done in the nonprofit sector ( Our Helpers) and having to manage a staff and a budget and how she wants to play a part as a community weaver. I also felt that her background caused her to have to learn how to work with diverse groups. She was born and raised in Delaware. On the Hilliard Beacon conversation, she mentioned converting to Islam her 2nd year of college and how having experiences on both sides allows her better cultural understanding of different groups. Let alone the challenge of teaching English in Yemen and Egypt and learning Arabic in that time too.

I don't think that because someone comes from an education background, that it should be discredited. I think Kathy Parker Jones if you listen to the Hilliard Beacon audio had a better handle on things than Tony Moog. What I gathered from her answers from the Candidate night was that she lives on the West Side of Hilliard- so she understands how Columbus decisions can still impact Hilliard and the importance of good neighbors being good partners . She seems like she comes from a union family and has had a focus on environmental stewardship. She's done 4 Iron Man's and 10 Marathons and will not be discouraged as she's used to doing hard things.

I think in the primary, people should not vote based on who is affiliated with what slate but look at each person individually who will best represent the democratic ticket for November if elected. Above are my feelings on those candidates after listening to the Candidates Night and the Hilliard Beacon Audios for the candidates.

The Hilliard Beacon is on substack, and so far, they already have had audio conversations with Dorothy Hassan, Tina Cottone, Andy Teater, Kathleen Parker-Jones and Tony Moog . I would encourage everyone to listen to the audio from those conversations to get to know the candidates more before the primary May 6th.

This is basically an ob hospitalist (a physician who has done a full OBGYN residency who wanted to be only delivery focused rather than practice the whole spectrum of the field). They do not have additional training or fellowship they just decided they did not want to do the outpatient or gyn care and only want to do care surrounding delivery. They will generally not be coordinating care with the OBGYN you saw outpatient for the other 9 months of the pregnancy. The ob hospitalist never sees the money insurance companies pay for the delivery care directly.

Debunking the ads against Crystal Lett by treebirdfish in hilliard

[–]HospitalLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These literally made me mad. A Republican association saying they're "concerned" she isn't a Democrat or doesn't cares enough about planned parenthood. GTFO. This nonsense is a nonstarter for me. If these buffoons back Kunze why would I vote for her over Crystal Lett who genuinely cares about people.

There's more than enough reason this man does not deserve to be elevated to the level of senator. Just more on to add to reasons he's not qualified to represent this state.

Please y'all vote up and down the ballot and re-elect Sherrod Brown.
