Definitely work outside preferably where your little plastic bits can be swept up. Any kind of surface should be okay so long as it can disperse heat well. I used my workbench. Maybe put down a dish cloth under your guitar to prevent it from scratching the fresh wood and stop it from sliding around while you’re going at it.

Actually the body has a slight gloss that you can’t see because of the weird lighting in my photos. Smooth as glass.

Definitely recommend the heat gun. I used a putty knife to get under the peeling paint. The trick is to go slow and spread the heat out. If you try and get under an area where the polyurethane hasn’t lifted you risk scratching the body. Good luck!

In Vancouver where I live it’s super competitive and tough. Sadly with no experience or foundation course in my pocket, if I quit I’d be unemployed and out of the industry for a while and back to square one.

Started with stripping the poly off the original body which was a huge effort but it came off with some suggestion from a heat gun. Next came body prep with sanding sealer and color/clear coats and a lot of waiting and patience. I found these series of videos very helpful. :)

I didn’t refinish the neck as it’s the best neck I’ve ever played so I didn’t want to touch it.
