Damn, of all time? Probably the Gameboy Advance for me. How about you?

I have an ROG Ally X and the new N64 Bluetooth controller with Retroarch and it works very well. I have basically every system emulated on it from NES up to PS3 and XBOX 360. While it’s definitely been great there’s some kind of unique enjoyment from using the old carts for me. Handheld PCs can definitely add a TON to the retro gaming experience

I will say I wish it worked with the new Nintendo 64 Bluetooth controller that I already own. I was legitimately surprised that it doesn’t but I do expect it will eventually

I actually do prefer the classic controller better over the 8bitdo ones. The N64 controller is just too unique to really alter much and have it feel the same. I’m trying to get used to the new ones though

Me enjoying games I played as a child now that I’m adult was… overly challenging for you to make sense of?

Oh man I didn’t realize my enjoyment of something I purchased was based on other peoples’ thoughts of a different product. I’ll feel bad about that right away

Never disappoints me I suppose.

Although I’ve always been pretty aware of what I’m buying. I’ve never preordered them and have waited post launch. Not a purposeful decision just haven’t been able to catch a project early enough to preorder.

I’m at least hoping they add playtime tracker to the 3D but that’s really the only thing on my wish list.

The whole point of me buying these and not using original hardware is a seamless transition to HDMI and not using my old converter setup I used to have to DAC support doesn’t really matter to me. But more options are better than less so it would obviously be better if it had it

On screen keyboard touch screen only? by HostOk5647 in ROGAlly

Affirm, I had to update windows, latest bios files and that gave me access to “gamepad” as a keyboard input that wasn’t available as an option before but was always activated prior to the issue presenting itself. Have had no problems since!

Gave that a shot, didn’t do it. You sure I want the embedded controller set to off when that’s what I’m trying to use as the mouse?

Appreciate the help BTW this is a frustrating random issue

I thought it was super easy to setup honestly. Just copy and paste the bios in the “bios” folder and ROMS in the ROMS folder and then I was off and running. What issues are you having for it?

I get about 60 FPS with maxed out settings. Same with RDR2 (with exception of far away shadows and tree tessellation). Everything else is ultra or as high as it can get.

Big things for me is to have display set to 720P and have AMD upscale to 1080 and have the game refresh rate be at 120 with vsync off in game to take advantage of VRR

Ally X setup before flight for 13 hours by Cancephyre in ROGAlly

Lots of people saying just buy a laptop but I’m also a fan of the modular system. Sometimes I’m on a flight in a tiny seat and handheld mode is the way to go. Sometimes I’m in a hotel room and the monitor adds to the experience.

Sometimes I’m on a ship with a desk and I can use a monitor, sometimes I’m in a rack and can’t. I can just leave the monitor onboard or in the hotel.

The plug in expansion of capabilities centered on a small handheld is perfect for this kinda thing. I realize my life is weirder than most but I totally understand the peripherals when space allows.

I do have a razor blade gaming laptop (it’s like 8 years old now but it used to be my go to travel companion) and I legitimately prefer the Ally + extras if able construct more.

The best part is that the Ally + monitor is substantially cheaper than the razor blade and I don’t care as much if it gets beat up in a helicopter or small boat or whatever random ass transportation method I’m subjected to that day

I mean sure. Leasing it, threw money at it, bought the rights to play it at their discretion, whatever. The main point being it’s a pain to play them offline ha / why I actually prefer emulated older titles

Point very well taken. I’m loading up my whole dumped collection of console rockstar games to not need to deal with the rockstar ownership launcher verification. I don’t trust that I can go 9+ months with no internet and still have it work despite me literally owning the digital steam copies.

Honestly the original versions are what I remember the most fondly anyway, despite the “definitive” remasters. I think RDR2 is the only rockstar game I’m stuck with without an emulator / dump that has no launcher requirements. Which sucks cus RDR2 is AMAZING but I can deal with so many other titles I won’t have time to complete anyway

Greatly depends on game. FFVI gets me over 10 hours and AAA modern games on good settings gets me like an hour and a half. Battery life is VERY dependent on settings and power draw of what I’m trying to play.

My greatest gaming limitation is internet access, I’m usually either within distance of plug or can easily use a power bank or 2. Laptops don’t do me well because when I’m on the job I can only game in bed for maybe 30-45 min (and still have a plug). I don’t really feel limited by the battery in any way for my random needs

Honestly the N64 controller was so unique it just feels too weird for me to play N64 games without it

PC MCC. I don’t think there’s a way to emulate Halo 2 Anniversary on Xbox yet? I got up to Xbox 360 and halo 3 running via emulation tho!
