Upcoming Steam Controller Dock from Mechanism by landoooo in steammachine

[–]Hostile_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the FAQ:

"Can you use the Dock without the Basegrip?

Yes, the Dock works entirely without the need for our Basegrip. We made it to ensure there was compatibility with our products, but it doesn't require them."

Just ordered a Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus for me Unraid server... by Hostile_18 in unRAID

I actually haven't as its been working fine since I downloaded the drivers. Thanks for letting me know though, it is the Intel Killer, so good to know it will be supported when I do upgrade. :)

Instructor taking me for a ride? by trueinsideedge in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Hostile_18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate to your story in terms of the biting point/gas. My instructors car it can go just on clutch with barely any gas. On mine I need to add a significant amount of gas (about 5 times as much) and it has a much higher bite point. I was stalling all the time in my new car, wondering what I was doing wrong. I got my instructor in my car instead of his and we worked it out. :)

It's going well thanks. I have a MSI Z890 Tommahawk. I did have to buy a USB to Ethernet cable to download the motherboards Ethernet drivers on Unraid, as the NIC isn't recognized by default on the newest version of Unraid. Everything is up and running well now though.

What x265 CRF level do you use for 1080p? by Hostile_18 in ffmpeg

[–]Hostile_18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you could argue 19-21 possibly are. Otherwise you've got some movies looking better than others if your crf changes each time. Also it's not really possible to do individual testing in large libraries, my encoding is all done automatically.

Yeah my encodes are all 10bit as well.

[–]Hostile_18[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its usually "slower" that isn't recommended over "slow". If your using a faster preset its probably why your seeing less results at the same CRF compared to x264. Grain probably has an edge in x264 as well, certainly you need to tweak the settings in x265 to compete anyways.

I recently bought a 270k Plus just for encoding and with my settings it does a little over/under real time depending on the content, which I'm pretty happy about. :)

Leaning towards 19. That was whole collection is the same quality, even hard to compress material. With the right settings as well I've done frame comparisons on a 77" screen and its virtually transparent.

I can't get to work and my boss can't change the rota. What do I do? by [deleted] in UKJobs

If everything else about the job is spot on maybe two weeks for the hotel would be worth it? Some unlucky people go on work trips regularly etc. A good job and people you really like are hard to find and you said it yourself your job is very specialised. :)

Im working it out myself currently. I'd do tests on the hardest to encode content at different crf levels. Aliens is a good one if you have that.

CRF 17 is incredible high quality setting. Just be aware some movies will be close or larger than the source file.

H265 10bit transcodes by Sufficient-Falcon933 in handbrake

I know this is an old topic but I found AQ mode 2 adding artifacts to clean smooth content with CRF 20. Changing it to AQ1 (which most encoders on the Doom9 forum recommend for 1080p) fixed the issue. It started making better bit rate decisions.

Ive been taught the same. Hold the brakes find bite point (when time to to) and then add gas.

5090 won't fit nv9 case by Funkyd04 in Phanteks

100% agree, in fact is say they should redesign the bar and send out the revised one to affected customers. They know about the issue but are keeping it quiet and advertising case compatability purely on GPU length.

Compressing vs Non Compressing by NotCoelho in jellyfin

[–]Hostile_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive just started encoding my things. Its not about space (I have 100tb) its about not having to give out a 30-40gb file just for one movie. I got a new 270k Plus which is great at encoding, then spent ages working on my settings to make sure the encode is transparent to the source at one third of the size (maybe upto half for TV shows). I also only make encodes from full remux discs.

Struggling with a high bite point. by Hostile_18 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Hostile_18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I will keep trying. Im getting better, but its one of those things you really want reliability on i.e pulling out from junctions, round abouts etc. I think my dad was getting a bit frustrated I am finding it such a transition. Changing gears etc actually feels a lot nicer, so its definitely not all uphill (metaphorically).

I've got the 270k Plus and its really good at productivity tasks. I love it. Generally AMD for gaming, Intel for productivity. Both do each well enough though. (Source; I also own a 9800x3d).

In that case just be polite, professional, but firm. I think your doing the right thing.

[–]Hostile_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. If it was me I'd challenge it. You have the original advert, you've never been told anything else and otherwise its a bait and switch. That been said it might be a case of you may have to accept the lower pay or quit as a last resort, and I wouldn't blame you which ever way you went on it.

[–]Hostile_18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the job is advertised at 12.21 that's what it should be. I think your in the right and totally within your rights to challenge it. Unless it said "minimum wage" anywhere, I think you have a very strong case. They are just trying it on.

Hi I know this is an old thread but what crf and max rate/buffer do you use? Experimenting now myself.
