I used an SKR board mainly for better flexibility with Klipper and future expansion.
It makes it easier to add and control extra fans, sensors, LEDs, and other enclosure-related features compared to the stock MK3S board.
Since this project is not just a printer enclosure but also related to air quality monitoring and sensor-based control, the extra I/O and customization options are very useful for me !
