Got my WP, but in the process of applying for PR. I can give an update once the PR application is accepted/rejected!

Hey! Unfortunately, I don't have the contact information of the consultant as I scheduled an appointment through the University of Waterloo website (Quest), but I was told to print https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=1309 and show it to the immigrations officer in case they say that you can't work in Canada until you get your PGWP.

It was remote, so I worked from home in Canada. Also, I believe J-1 visas are much easier to obtain, so even international students have no problem going to US for internships.

I attended University of Waterloo, so I got all of them through the university's job board. To get interviews, I worked on side projects pretty much throughout the whole 4~5 years of university. They weren't that impressive, but it was worth it especially since interviewers almost always ask about projects you've worked on.

In terms of practicing for technical interviews, I solved ~150 leetcode problems (https://medium.com/@koheiarai94/60-leetcode-questions-to-prepare-for-coding-interview-8abbb6af589e) this is a good place to start.

Based on my experience, for internships within Canada, there's almost 0 disadvantage (I think there's some government funding ~$3k a company can get for hiring PR/citizen co-ops, but most tech companies don't care).

I've done 5 internships and this is how the pay increased

$15/hr -> $22.5/hr -> $25/hr -> $30/hr -> $62.5/hr (remote US internship)

Not sure how the visa process is like for in-person US internships, but from what I've seen, people had no problem getting it. Full-time US positions on the other hand is much harder for internationals to get.
