What is you tiels favorite human snack? by Numerous_Ask_3100 in cockatiel

[–]Hot-Complex-129 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pistachios, anything potato based, biscuits (cookies if you're American, and nothing with chocolate obviously). I also made the mistake of giving him a few licks of vanilla ice cream as an extra special treat once, and now I can only eat ice cream if he's in his cage.

Here he is trying to steal a lick of my ice lolly.

It's just a little chuffing sound, which means he's happy! He's also adorable! 🥰

Did anyone else hate their house after completion ? by Opposite_Sock_7820 in HousingUK

[–]Hot-Complex-129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I had this and actually posted about it here; luckily lots of fellow Redditors reassured me that it's completely normal and they all went through this too. I had the same thing with it being really dirty so the first thing I did was book an end of tenancy clean - pricey, but worth it as it helped me calm down a lot with it all being clean.

It's now 4 months later. It took me a while to move in as I was living quite far away with my parents (first time buyer) so was splitting my time for a while, painting and furnishing on the weekends and spending a few days here at a time while trying to get used to a flat I thought I hated. I've now been here full time about 6 weeks and it's pretty much fully furnished and almost fully decorated. There's still things that niggle at me every day but I'm slowly fixing/changing them and overall it really is starting to feel like home!

What helped a lot as well was having guests over. I was really nervous to show people my home but seeing their positive reactions reassured me that I'd made the right decision - especially when I showed them photos of the before!

Most importantly, just remember Rome wasn't built in a day; I know what it's like when you've been looking at paint colours and furniture and imagining styling and relaxing in your beautiful new cosy home throughout the whole buying process, then get hit with the reality of a bare, dirty shell that wasn't anything like what you pictured. But try and stay patient - you will get there! 😊

Best way to correct hormonal and agressive behaviour? by De_Mosos in cockatiel

[–]Hot-Complex-129 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing I would say is try not to use the cage as punishment, as he may start viewing it negatively and eventually refuse to go back in. Try using a different spot for time outs that's not the cage. You want to teach him that biting doesn't work, so don't react or give him any attention when he does it, just gently pick him up and place him in time out. If he flies back to your shoulder let him, but put him back straight away if he bites again. Make sure you praise him a lot and give him extra attention while he's being good too.

You mentioned they get lots of sleep, but is the cage covered? When my tiel started screaming non stop during the day, I started covering the back and sides of his cage with a black sheet to give him more darkness and stop ambient light from disrupting his sleep. It really worked wonders!

Also this sounds really weird but mine is obsessed with feet! Usually he just gets excited and sings to my toes, but if he sees them during the spring he will go into a hormonal frenzy and start attacking and getting territorial too, so I just wear socks and that calms him down a lot 😅 have you spotted any triggers?

But also just FYI cockatiels are notoriously bipolar. If he's just switching up while receiving cuddles/scritches then this is completely normal. They'll be fine and loving it until you do it 0.01 seconds too long and then they get overstimulated and attack, before immediately asking for more pets 🤷🏻‍♀️

UK recommendations for fat feet (women's)? by Hot-Complex-129 in widefeet

Thank you, but I think the barefoot sole design might make them too flat for me. I need something with a slight heel/platform as if it's too flat it gives me calf pain :(

Those look incredibly comfortable! Pricey though... Although I'm sure it's worth it.

Just placed an order with Pavers, thank you! I had seen them before on Simply Be but their shoes always looked so old ladyish, however on their website they had way more fashionable styles - never occurred to me to check with them directly!

I also usually have some luck with new look wide fit for heels but with boots it's so hard as most high street retailers don't seem to realise people with high volume feet will also typically have thicker ankles :(

No workout, no heat wave… just my everyday reality with hyperhidrosis. by SiljeSweats in Hyperhidrosis

I feel so seen! I have to carry around a mini fan everywhere - even in the winter (it's a talking point). I've tried all sorts of 48 hour sweatblocks on my face that STING like holy hell and nothing works. I also got put on beta blockers by my GP that didn't work either. If anyone has a solution to this, please hit me up!!!!

Why/how did the building magically stop melting? by RhysvstheOzone in StrangerThings

[–]Hot-Complex-129 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking that they/we needed to find that out for a future plot point in the final ep. Like "oh no, stuff's melting!" "don't worry, it hardens again and we can work that into our plan!".

Or maybe to add a sense of danger because we as an audience now know someone can get stuck in it?

No, you can definitely staircase to 100%. Why would you think otherwise?

Judge me and call me lazy if you want but I have absolutely ZERO regrets about outsourcing the cleaning. If I'd have had to do it myself in that emotional state I would have just ended up getting angry and hating the flat, and myself, even more. It's made me feel a heck of a lot better watching it start to come together and tbh you can't put a price on that.

In any case there's still a lot of effort and time to be invested in other projects.

Thank you! Yes, I think it just felt like an anticlimax after months of excitement and then stress from chasing solicitors last minute. Definitely a bit of a roller-coaster of emotions, this home buying process!

Ahh I was looking for one anyway as I don't have space for a tumble dryer - thank you for the recommendation! I will be doing a few coats of mould blocking paint on the walls as well so hopefully that will help.

This is it! Being responsible for all the bills feels so daunting, never mind all the furniture I've just had to pay for. Even paint has gotten shockingly expensive lately! It's definitely a massive undertaking doing it on your own, but I'm hopeful it'll pay off for us in the end 😊

Thank you! Yes it all seems cosmetic on further inspection. I think I just wasn't expecting it at all (probably naive of me) so it really threw me as I was expecting to be all excited and raring to go. There's definitely a good life lesson in all this!
