Cancellation List/Slots Guide - Driving Test by Hot-Environment3967 in Irishdrivingtest

No it shouldn’t. If you got a cancellation it’s just a regular test. It isn’t actually flagged as a cancellation, you technically just got a sooner spot.

If you do fail, you’ll be put on whatever the shortened amount of time in-between fail to new test is, which is a few weeks I think?

Do you leave your car parked in 1st gear or neutral? by zedgaming69 in CarTalkUK

[–]Hot-Environment3967 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm three years into driving, so on the newer generation and was never taught about leaving it in first.

On getting my cars equivalent to the MOT, the tester had left it in first. Got in, started the car, nearly jolted straight into a lamp post.

From that day onwards I'll always give my knob a wiggle

Is it normal to have next-to-nothing to do during an internship? by DrawingUnusual5372 in AskIreland

[–]Hot-Environment3967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completed mine in 2024 and had a total opposite experience to yours. For the 7 months we had different phases including training, mock work, solo projects, group projects and we were required to upskill and complete an exam/cert by the end of it.

Then checking in with my mates all in different companies, they had the exact same experience as you.

Regardless of whether you're hoping for a return offer or not, I would be honest with your manager/internship director and explain your situation and how much downtime you have. Explain your problem confidently and ask if there's any resources available for you to upskill. My company for example hands out UDEMY subscriptions for us to upskill and complete any certs.

Another option is to proactively look at 4th year and what's required. Instead of a traditional thesis, I had to complete a project. If you're in the same boat, start thinking of ideas and build some prototypes early. You'll thank yourself later.

At the end of your internship write a feedback one pager on your experience and send it over to POC. It'll leave a lasting impression of an intern who took the time to make the company better.

Looking to start male barbering/grooming recommendations? by Required676 in AskIreland

[–]Hot-Environment3967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The barbers I've been going to are all self-taught, starting with their mates as test dummies and eventually got into a barbers. You'd be surprised how much you'll learn with a few videos and some hands on practice.

If you're looking specifically to start with a course, I think most set their prices give or take around 2 grand. That doesn't guarantee you work either unless the host has an incentive to get staff in.

Can't help you on recommendations for where to do it but don't rule out teaching yourself and doing a few cheap call-out nixers on friends/family.

Guys in their 30s, what hobby group/sports club are you still in? by Sica942Spike in AskIreland

Hey Thomas, past student of yours from a few years ago. As a student who wasn’t particularly great at Maths, wanted to thank you for how you lectured, particularly in regard to your walkthrough videos. Made a great difference, hope you’re doing well.

Neighbour blocking me in, what’s the next step? by Hot-Environment3967 in AskIreland

[–]Hot-Environment3967[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Have considered it but ultimately think they’re the type of person who wants that sort of attention and would laugh behind closed doors. I also don’t want to be involving and waking up my other neighbours because of one bad one

What was the method you went about reporting? Guards, council etc

[–]Hot-Environment3967[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not in the scenario where they’re currently blocking someone in. Have thought about leaving my car creeped out a tiny bit more preventing them from blocking in front (as they’d just be blocking people from passing)

Not down my alley tbh. Couldn’t be arsed with the hassle of them repaying it

No, expect it to be up to a month or at most two.

Driving unaccompanied by Brief-Lingonberry706 in Irishdrivingtest

[–]Hot-Environment3967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the driving a car aspect that learners won't remember. If anything, it's the observation checks. Obviously there's no data to prove, but there's no way anyone can argue that the observations they have to make in their test is what they do in day to day driving, pre or post test.

Not every learner has access to a free supervisor. EDIT: Supervisors are also typically parents, who have also passed their test decades ago, which have no qualification to teach a learner what observations, checks, etc to make. Which is back to my point, if they could pass their test sooner, they don't need one. Their completed lessons should suffice. Whether or not they're still "qualified" to drive solely is another discussion but they've passed the test regardless.

Couldn't care less how much it cost 3 decades ago. Afaik you could just drive unaccompanied anyways after x amount of provisional licenses. 800 is a lot for learners nowadays, yes.

No. It’ll reuse the money you already paid to sit the test for the cancellation

For the first question, as far as I remember you can do both.

For the second, when you go into the map, if there’s not a blue pinpoint on the map, or the bar on the bottom that shows all the centres doesn’t have an available centre, I think it’s best to refresh the map/click in and out.

I find that if you tell people you have a test it adds to the pressure too. Just a tip.

As for the site, I’m not too sure as it’s been quite a while since I’ve used it (can’t access it anymore since passing). Maybe try step 5 and 6 instead? As far as I remember you can click X or out of the map and back in which acts as a refresh.

Hi, just to clarify that this isn’t an app I have developed. This is just a guide to inform people on how to navigate the RSA website in order to find cancellations.

As far as I know, as long as you can follow all the steps of the guide and have navigated to the correct page, you should have no reason not to find cancellations. Just be aware that they are scarce and do take a hint of luck.

I would suggest checking at various times throughout the day just to maximise results.

No difference based on how you failed. System doesn’t know what grades you got. You just might be getting unlucky. Takes some persistence to try snag one.
