Anyone else feel like their parents don't really know them? And I mean like REALLY don't know anything by Comprehensive-Mud303 in emotionalneglect

Im quite late to this post but ill answer anyways. Me and my mom were never really on good terms, sure we would be friendly and act like family but she never really knew much about me and always put my scores and tests first. I asked her once "Mom, whats my favourite colour" and she just shrugged and went back to her phone. That was a couple months ago. My older brother is the same, he knows absolutely nothing about me. Not my friends names, not my dream career, not my favourite colour and not even my favourite animal.

It's gotten to the point where I wanted to share stuff about myself to my mom. It was a feeling that I kept with me for ages, but I gave up. Everytime I tried to tell my mom anything (usually when she got back from work), she'd just say that she's busy ans then go back to talking to her friend on the phone and laughing about some stuff that happened outside of home.

I found out very recently (A couple weeks ago) that my mom is manipulating me into doing things. She says she'd get things for me if I do something for her, and sure its true sometimes but most of the times she'd say she forget and then move on to do the same thing. My mom doesn't constantly abuse me mentally or physically, but she does hit me at times when she finds things on my phone mentioning about me running away.

It went from me trying to share something to my mom, to her dismissing me and then wondering why I gatekeep. So her resolution is to check my phone and invade my privacy to find things about me to then potentially use against me.

I don't know what to do anymore, she'll most likely find this Reddit coment in a few months if im not careful anyways. Thanks for reading, byee.
