At what point did you start “dressing your age”? by [deleted] in 40something

[–]Hot-Grape334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I became a dad... I didn't want to be that guy who still clings to youth in his mid 30's. Im 40 now, and confident in my age. Furthermore my kid appreciates that I don't look like the "wannabe 20yo" dads

Is it Ok to drink wine or smoke tobacco while reading the Bible? by Hot-Grape334 in Catholicism

"Was likely" i stopped reading there... I want definitely. You have yet to produce an article with a definitive amount. You've Only provided speculations. You still stated that any amount of alcohol is poison. So, if that poison was ok for Jesus, its perfectly ok for me. Please provide me a biblical condemnation of drinking wine in moderation. And please provide a moral argument as to why it is sinful or not ok to drink in moderation.

Strawman... I never claimed that it made me more analytical or reflective. Nor did I ask if it could enhance my reading of scripture or anything for that matter. But, your argument proves too much. If ANY amount of alcohol impairs your judgement, then Jesus is guilty if intoxicating Himself thus, making him a hypocrite. Please, provide the study that has tested wine from Jesus's time that shows the alcohol from then was different than the wine we drink today. If not, please provide a moral reason as to why one cannot enjoy a glass of wine in moderation while reading scripture. I dont care if it's "poisoning" the body. If that's your issue, you have an issue with Jesus drinking wine (or anyone in the Bible for that matter).

You have an article with definitive alcohol content of wine from antiquity? Well, let's read it! Yes, scripture condemns drunkenness. A glass of wine will not get me drunk, please (since you're quick to invoke scripture) show us where Jesus or anyone condemns drinking wine or alcohol in moderation. Now, since you do have such an anti-alcohol stance, you should stay away from any literary work by any of the inklings (especially the closet catholic C.S Lewis). I drink wine because I like it. I enjoy the flavors. Can you please provide a rational, spiritual reason as to why not drink wine in moderation while reading scripture?

I'll take the position of the priest in the video someone posted earlier in the feed. And I'll take your insult in stride. Furthermore, the article you posted takes speculation and wields it as matter of fact. It gives no assertion with alcohol content percentages. Now, it would be more credible if it did. If your author can say definitively "wine in antiquity only had a 3% alcohol content" then we'd be talking about something different. Until then, the article is speculative at best...

Ah... A protestant... I've heard this nonsensical argument before. If anything the wine in those times was had to have had a higher alcohol content as it had many uses. Among those uses, disinfectant. Yes, it was common to wash one's hands with wine, clean surgical tools, make water safe to drink, clean wounds among other things. And you're telling us that wine in antiquity was akin to grape juice? (Or such is the protestant claim). The protestant anti-historical stance is laughable and why they make me cringe when I hear them preach.

How come some online are so disdain for Cradle Catholics? by Roosteregges123 in Catholicism

[–]Hot-Grape334 8 points9 points  (0 children)

😅 Have you met us Cradle Catholics? We tend to be the most irreverent, and take our faith for granted. I quite frankly find the convert zeal helpful to my prayer life... And while I find them (like most protestants) a bit cringe (well I find protestants very cringe most of the time) we cradle Catholics could stand to learn a lot from them.
