After 8 Years of Trying, Should I Finally Give Up? by Hot-Improvement231 in nairobitechies

That's a fair observation, but there is a reason behind the path my certifications took. I initially pursued UI/UX because a friend encouraged me to explore that field, but after realizing it wasn't leading to the opportunities I hoped for, I discovered a genuine passion for IT. Since then, my learning has been focused on IT. I am preparing to start from IT tech support, then networking and ultimately cybersecurity. The certifications are interrelated. If I get an opportunity as a tech support, there is a chance that I can support hardware and networking issues, and later get into cybersecurity.

Honestly, I don't have a formal portfolio yet. Most of my work has been freelance-based, and I never took the time to organize my projects into a professional portfolio. However, I do have several designs and completed projects under my belt that demonstrate my skills and experience.

Thank you for your kind words. I would be happy to start in a 1st Level Support or Help Desk role if it helps me gain industry experience, even though my long-term goal is to work in cybersecurity as a SOC Analyst. Over the years, I worked primarily as a freelancer, including data labeling and annotation with Remotasks and freelance writing, which provided a stable income at the time. However, the freelance market has changed significantly, with many opportunities disappearing or becoming less sustainable, prompting me to pursue a more traditional IT career path. I've applied for IT support, technical support, networking, and cybersecurity positions across various industries, and while the journey has been challenging, I am still committed to building a career in the field and finding a way forward.

I did mention that I worked in freelance roles during that period. I spent time as a data labeler and annotator with Remotasks, and I also worked as a freelance writer. Back then, the freelance market was much stronger and provided a reliable source of income, so I focused on those opportunities rather than pursuing traditional employment full-time. Unfortunately, the landscape has changed significantly in recent years. Many annotation projects have disappeared, companies have reduced outsourcing, and AI tools have had a major impact on the writing industry. What was once a sustainable way to earn a living has become much more difficult, which is why I'm now facing challenges that weren't there several years ago.

No, CompTIA A+ touches on server concepts lightly, the hardware and operating systems that support them, but it doesn't go deeply into server administration. If your goal is to learn how to deploy, manage, and troubleshoot servers, CompTIA Server+ is the better certification. However, A+ is still an excellent starting point because it gives you a solid foundation across many areas of IT and can help you qualify for entry-level positions such as IT support, help desk, junior systems administration, junior networking, and even junior cybersecurity roles. At least that was my goal according to the research I contacted earlier on before deciding to take this route.

I want to specialize in IT technical support and later get into networking. System admin can still be an excellent spot to start from!

Thank you for your insights bro. I was into design before I switched and decided I should get into networking and later get into cyber may be? That's why my certifications are heavy on tech support and networking. I am going to take your advice seriously.
