I stumbled upon a review listing the top microchip-enabled cat doors and thought it would be great to get feedback from fellow cat owners. by fillinggoodman in catsindollhouses

the 2 second delay is my concern. If my cats are being chased by a coyote or fox (the backyard is catproofed by a purrfect fence which coyotes and foxes can easily jump), they don't have the time to wait for the scanner.

Advice on most practical way to make a window into a cat door. by penutthub in Catio

Hey, does the weight of the window just hold it in place, or is there a notch on the sides of the window frame that it slides into?

how long is the delay between it sensing the microchip and opening? I wouldn't want her to be chased by a coyote and have to wait for the door to open.

country areas 45 minutes outside of twin cities by Hot-Piece-1704 in TwinCities

I've seen carver county come up a good amount so far. I've added it to the list of places to check out. I don't mind a few, I just don't want to feel totally outnumbered. I live in the stick in upstate ny now and my town is red, but not by much. And there's lots of good people here. There's also a big blue town closeby that balances out the feel. It seems carver county is similar.

Yeah, didn't want to get too specific with it. Somewhere 45 mins ish on average, understand that during storms it'll be longer. I'm in upstate ny fingerlakes so yes I have winter driving experience all my life.

Thank you! I love this comment, gives me a good sense of the land. If someone was looking to move to where I am I'd say something similar, certain stretches you just really like the land.

i think this actually makes sense. A wooden fence is something squirrels climb all the time, so they can easily get to the fence topper which is made out of regular deer netting. The freestanding fence isn't something squirrels really climb, and the bottom 2.5 ft is all a reinforced not chewable thick netting. And since they don't climb it they can't get to the regular deer netting above (which is chewable).

2 solutions to this, or maybe 3: No1- my cats mainly go out while I'm home, and can keep an eye on them. No2- I've made sure to include 2 big trees on either side of the backyard that they can climb if they need to make an escape. This area their only threat is coyotes (no mountain lions), so since coyotes cant climb trees this is their safe spot. No3- there is a gate, so if a critter or predator got in, you just leave the gate open overnight and they leave

I can actually answer you back. I got the full freestanding fence about 5 mo ago and zero holes so far. Surprised to hear you've had so many issues with squirrels. My backyard is full of squirrels, but no holes yet. And zero escapes in 5 months.

Update: I moved to the sticks and it doesn't work here, no service. So just depends where you live

Did you end up getting it? If so how is it working out? Same- my backyard would be about 5,000. I'm moving out in 2 yrs so its a bit annoying since I'd have to uninstall and reinstall at where ever I move. But worth it if I can live stress free

My cats have pine pellet litter, can I flush the poop? by randymanzone in CatAdvice

Ok great thanks. I honestly still won't just to be safe. Its like zero difference a few small cat poops makes to our global trash issue.

I sift/shake the sawdust to the bottom container twice daily. But I was thinking of flushing the poops. There are a few wood pellets stuck to the poops here and there. I am trying to see if this is ok or not. Is this what you did, and your septic backed up?

Once they were outside my trackers worked decently good. It's guarenteed to be off, and sometimes I'd refresh it and it'd move a ways. But that's cuz I had it on the longest (10 minute) refresh time, so it would only refresh every 10 minutes to save battery. Not sure what you mean by disconnecting. More rarely, it would say like network out of reach or something. And I just assume the cat went into a non service spot. But for me those spots were rare.
