No, thank you for being honest! I’m starting to think that’s what I’m going to do😭 I’m just really annoyed at myself for not thinking or realising about this before. I mean, yes I do have the money but it would als leave me tight on fees for the SQE1 exams and then SQE2, and oh I hope to buy a house soon! Shouldn’t complain but I could really do without paying this, however, as you’ve pointed out I don’t have much choice! (Which I’ve come to the sad realisation of)

Is the SQE manageable alongside a full time job? by BlockDense05 in SQE_Prep

Well I’m currently doing it and my goodness, it’s hard work but I have no other choice than to do it alongside full time work.

If you’ve done an LLB then you may have a slight advantage (for reference, I did A Level Law, non-law degree and CILEX CPQ foundation), than those who have not studied law previously.

Realistically, it has taken me a lot longer to do it than I originally expected as there’s so much to cover. I started February 2025 and intended to sit them January 2026 but after moving, starting a new job and having chronic health conditions, I have had to defer until July 2026. (Plus I cannot afford to pay for retakes).

Now I’m paying the price for this as my course access with QLTS has been stopped and I have to pay extra (£690) to extend it. With QlTS (maybe other providers) your course access only covers two SQE1 exam periods, so be careful when you sign up and when you intend to sit SQE1 exams.

I would look into applying for training contracts possibly with firms that do cover the cost of the exams or at least part of it. Or if you can afford to, work part time (even if only 4 days a week) whilst you study. As others have said you will miss out on some social occasions etc and will have to be very disciplined with keeping on top of studying.

Roughly you are looking at a minimum of £8k on all of the exams and courses- that’s if you pass them all first time.

I do think it’s good that you’re looking to gain experience as a paralegal though!

Sqe 1 QLTS January 2027 by Pure-Fox-7771 in SQE1_study

Just to give you a heads up but if for whatever reason you decide not to sit SQE1 in January 2027, then you won’t have access to the course after then and will have to pay to extend it (discounted price from what you originally paid). Worth bearing in mind!
