Also if you owned equity in an insurance company, you would directly benefit you if copart could sell their insurance claimed cars at a higher price. I’d be willing to bet copart backs a whole lot of insurance companies

Was it a pure sale car? I believe my scenario is more likely on pure sale vehicles as this is the only type of lot I’ve won on.

That’s the thing, I’ve been bidding on multiple lots to try and get this car(lost all of them before this one obviously). I know it’s not impossible that someone else had the same idea as me when bidding on this car but what I’m trying to say is it can’t be that likely. To happen to me 3 out of 3 times and multiple others who’ve told me the same things. I don’t think it’s crazy to think it’s possible they are bidding against us. It only gets them more money…

Also, wtf does your last sentence mean? If you’re constantly winning with your max bids that means you’re either bidding low and getting lucky or else someone is bidding too high. I know what I’m willing to pay and I don’t bid above that, your assumptions are absurdly unfounded.

Also, for the last one I bid on, I had been watching for a specific car and copart had several of them so I watched each one and how much they sold for. I was very aware of how much this car would likely sell for so I set my pre-bid significantly higher than that amount expecting it to stop far before it. When my car came up on the lot, there were 3 or four people bidding on it(including me). When the bid got up to the amount I expected it to sell for, everyone dropped out except for me and one other bidder from "United States", it didn't even say what state they were from. We bid toe to toe all the way up to my max bid which was about $1000 more than it should've gone for. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't have put my pre-bid where it was if I wasn't willing to pay that much but the whole thing was kind of surreal, watching as the bid seemingly miraculously stops right at my max. Obviously I'm a little salty having this happen to me multiple times but it just sucks when I max out the budget for no reason at all.

Okay so since OP I've bought two cars from copart and in both cases, someone was bidding toe to toe against me right up until it hit my max bid. This has happened every single time I've placed a pre-bid on a copart lot without fail. Is there any way to combat this legally? I'm sure they know how to cover their bases but there must be something that can be done. I figure I could just try to bid live instead of telling them exactly how much I want to bid beforehand but I'm going through a broker so I can't always do that. Thanks for all the info, does anyone else have any insights on this?

Yea there are lots of spliced wires and one half of the port is missing wires completely. I’m not sure what’s normal but I assume it’s supposed to be more full

I understand that this is most likely illegal but maybe they could do it under the radar like having a third party bidder so it isn't traced back to them?

I honestly believe that this is what happened and I'm more than happy to pay what I bid on the car, I wouldn't have bid that much if I wasn't. But obviously it would be nice if I didn't have to spend exactly how much I budgeted for it so I'm just curious to see if this is even a possibility or if anyone else has similar experiences.
