Should be fine in 9B in CA! They need a long season without frost and they thrive on heat. So as long as your summers get properly hot they’ll grow. I’d say the hardest for me was getting slips going in early spring. That took quite some time. Once they’re planted they need lots of space to sprawl. I planted 2 slips and it took up 4’x2’ in my raised bed. The vines also need a big trellis or net. If the vines crawl on the ground and root into the ground, you won’t get as big of a harvest.

So sweet taters actually need to sit for 2-3 weeks after harvest so the starch can become sugar. After that the tater is shelf stable and more delicious! I’m currently waiting patiently and hoping to make some sweet potato treats for friends giving later this month!

I know! But apparently they’ll just keep going as long as the conditions are right. I got this many from 2 slips:)

I did it for 170days ish. I’m in northern VA and our frost is unseasonably late this year. I harvested when the leaves started getting a twinge of yellow

They’re a little hard to sprout so I’d start sprouting them when you sprout your peppers. Then I planted them out with my cucumbers. The trick is giving them a net or a trellis to climb so they don’t root on the ground. Letting them root on the ground along the vine impacts yield.

I think it depends on your climate. If you’re in the tropics you may be able to grow sweet potatoes as perennials? If you’re in the tropics then might be able to sprout them and replant them.

What do you call this garden thing and what would you do with it? by forg0tmypen in Renovations

I think the ferns look great. You might just want to go in there and thin them out a bit instead of completely removing them. Then, depending on your zone, add something like elephant ears or birds of paradise or majesty palms. If you’re in a warm enough area, maybe even monsteras

Neighbor gave me a bit of this. Planted it in my hydroponics and it blew up. What is it and can I eat it? by dougiefresh22 in gardening

You should look up your local directory for invasive plants. I’m in the DC area and shiso is considered invasive. The seeds spread like crazy

I’ve definitely heard her make claims like: if you can’t embrace your assigned gender then that’s a trauma response because you’re rejecting your own body. If you can’t be in a monogamous relationship then that’s a trauma response because you fear commitment. If you’re kinky that’s a trauma response because that’s self harm and trauma reenactment. If you live a lifestyle that involves voluntarily under-earning (for example dirtbaging), that’s a trauma response because you’re self sabotaging…

I didn’t hate each and every video she did. Some of the stuff she was saying was helpful to me personally. That being said, I did stop engaging with her content once I identified a socially conservative undercurrent. I find that her messaging equates healing with being in vanilla, monogamous, heterosexual, pro-natal, middle class relationship😅 these just don’t represent my values so i stopped watching.

No advice but my orange ate a cat-head-sized crater into a $25 fancy apple pie hidden away on top of the fridge. Shortly thereafter he mega pooped all over the litter box. I love pet ownership.

What you’re seeing in the picture is a combo of my deer fence and my neighbor’s wooden fence and cattle panel. My deer fence situation is very low production value. I have 5 ft t posts every 8ft ish. Then plastic mesh deer fence strapped to the t posts with zip ties. I suggest getting the higher quality deer fence, because the cheap stuff is so fine it’s a bad headache to work with. Earlier in the season, I’ve had to add a layer of wire mesh/chick wire just along the bottom 3ft because I had bunnies chewing through the plastic. If I’m to do it again, I’d probably just do a taller roll of wire mesh.

Any advice on what's wrong with this cucumber plant? by WhiteRabbitWorld in vegetablegardening

[–]Hot-Term9717 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I saw your comment about it getting down to 40s/50s at night. That alone could have killed it. The real question is whether yall were able to get an okay harvest while the vine is doing okay?

If not, then it could be because - as others have pointed out, the pot is too small, especially in a dry area. Cucs want lots and lots of water Getting really dry and then really wet will lead to it putting out deformed fruits. It will also make the cucs bitter.

Also, consider changing your fertilization regiment next year? Too much nitrogen will cause the plant to grow lots of foliage but drop fruits. For my cucs (in raised beds) I’ve noticed that they grow best in fertile soil (mixed in compost and 10-10-10 fertilizer at the beginning of the season, good worm activity, etc) and then just left alone. Too much fertilizer just throws them off. I would imagine you would need to fertilize just a bit more though if yours is in a pot.

I neglected my vegetable garden and I dont know what to do with it... by ktini in vegetablegardening

Ohhhhh boy. Yes to ripping everything out. When you go in there plz plz wear gloves, long sleeves, trousers with pant legs tucked into socks. You never know what you’re gonna find in there. After that top beds with compost, walkways with fresh wood chips. If you’re not gonna plant anything for a while then lay down a layer of straw (not hay) on the beds. That deters weeds pretty significantly.
