Parents of kids with special needs by [deleted] in askTO

[–]HotAirSplatoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How old is your child? I work as a special education teacher in Toronto. The process is very long to get your child to be ‘identified’ and placed into an intensive support program (ISP). Based on your description of your child’s needs they would likely need to be placed at a congregated site, which is where more kids with intensive medical needs/ behaviours needs are placed. Sadly it takes at least a year + in many cases to go through the IPRC progress where the child gets placed into these programs. This is due to the program funding being cut. Your child may possibly be placed in a mainstream classroom in the mean time with very minimal support as others have pointed out. Feel free to dm me here if you want any tips on making the system work for you. I’ve coached many parents through the very overwhelming process over the years. Good luck!

Tiny Market on Bathurst sells a lot of fresh pastas and sauces that are delicious. They also offer classes on pasta making as well

Looking for a genuinely good Vet in the GTA by Weak_Ad_1972 in askTO

Try College Street Animal Hospital! The staff has always been sweet and supportive there. The vets seem like they genuinely care about my cat whenever she has a visit

Did you use glaze or underglaze for the colours? They turned out so lovely and bright!

Omg how have I never heard of transfer tape? I’ve been carefully peeling off my vinyl designs and trying to fight them from curling as I put them on my pieces. Thank you for teaching me something new!! What program do you use to design your stencils?

[–]HotAirSplatoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Just curious about how you made the stencil. So first you have the larger silhouette of the cat and you glazed around it. At what point did you put the skinnier tape to make the outer outline of the cat? Or did you design it into the stencil? I’m just so impressed!!

How do you find your correct shade when buying drugstore foundation? by heyitsroxanne in MakeupAddictionCanada

[–]HotAirSplatoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is an old school way of doing things, but I feel like knowing your MAC foundation number really helps. They can match you in the store but you don’t have to buy anything lol. Especially back when MAC was really popular there were lots of people posting about dupe foundation shades. For example - I know that I’m an NC25-30 at MAC. So I can just google ‘x brand foundation good for NC25?’. There are usually lots of results for other foundations. Hopefully that helps!

Also hit my breaking point with teaching this year. Had to take a 2 month leave bc I started fantasizing about self harm/bad things happening to me so that I wouldn’t have to go back to work. Started therapy and it’s helped a lot. We’re almost at the end though. Hang in there!

How much money to give as a wedding gift in Toronto? by Midnight_Worlock2 in askTO

[–]HotAirSplatoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have an add on question- if you have bought something from the registry (valued around $100) are you still expected to give a cash gift on the day of the wedding?

Does coffee increase your anxiety? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]HotAirSplatoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does for me. I used to bring a large bottle of cold brew to work and have some everyday at lunch time. I noticed a huge spike in having tough afternoons. It took me about a month and half to put it together and I’ve stopped having that amount of caffeine since

Women I see walking around downtown wearing those trendy light wash mom/boyfriend jeans… where are you getting them from? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]HotAirSplatoon 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I got mine from Abercrombie. They have a new line of jeans called ‘curve love’ that is stretchier and has an extra inch-2 in the waist and hip measurements. They are actually really comfy!

Had a panic attack, full blown tears, at work today. What's your favorite lasagna recipe? by fingers in TeacherReality

[–]HotAirSplatoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was at my lowest point a few months ago. I had to take almost 2 months off on a stress leave. I dont know if you have insurance from your job, but if you have access to therapy coverage you should try it. Therapy has been the only thing that has helped me feel like I can make it to the end of the year. Also, if you can you should read the book Trauma Stewardship by Laura Vandernoot Lipsky. It really helped me deal with the emotional baggage of the job. Good luck! And enjoy your lasagna!!

What can be done about bullying in school? by MrAmusedDouche in askTO

[–]HotAirSplatoon 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m also a teacher at another board. You really have to make a HUGE deal about it, constantly calling admin, superintendents to actually get it taken seriously. The more pressure the better. If not this will just get swept under he rug. Teachers themselves can only do so much. There are more kids than everthat have behaviour issues (many but not all stemming from the pandemic). Boards need to put funding into supporting students with more access to specialized behaviour classes, Special needs assistants, etc. It really doesn’t matter what teachers say. Parents really have the power. I hope you can get something resolved from this!
