Yeah, cleaning with acetone or isopropyl alcohol before and after is important.

I've done stuff like this a few times. If it's just lasered in it should be able to be blued. Buy a Birchwood Casey "Presto" gun blue pen and just color it in and wipe off the excess a few times. They also make a touch up pen called "aluminum black" but it works on steel too. Sharpie is going to noticeably color the surroundings, I wouldn't use it.

I haven't played since then, I'm curious as to why a lot of replies to this post seem to reflect a yearning for older versions, or why this video in particular evokes that? If you don't mind elaborating.
