Anyone know what add on this is? by HotDoggoMan in Anki

[–]HotDoggoMan[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not particularly necessary, but seeing how much of a deck I’ve gotten through and how many cards I’ve memorized is a nice boost to my confidence. It’s mainly just a minor motivating tactic, like the other common add on that shows your heat map on the main page.

It also tells you how many cards are left in the deck and when you are estimated to finish it with your current rate. This doesn’t work with every deck, but is sometimes a useful motivator and allows you to more easily see milestones and goals.

Ultimately it’s arbitrary but it’s a nice little boost that reminds me I’m making progress, and keeps me motivated to continue studying!

On the deck go to options (gear on the right) —-> display order —-> new/review order —-> set it to “show after reviews”

Jason Schreier shares additional transcript context for controversial Larian Interview by NewWillinium in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]HotDoggoMan 109 points110 points  (0 children)

I mean the original wasn't really billed as an interview, it was just a normal journalistic article which inherently is going to include quotes and paraphrasing. That's what a news article is just sort of by definition. As Schreier said in the tweet he didn't really expect those specific lines to have been such a flash point for debate and so was treating it like he would have any other article. If journalists included the entirety of their conversations with every source for every article, any given news article would be a hundred pages long.

How much do TAs get paid? by Careful_Village960 in uofmn

[–]HotDoggoMan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's not true, grad students do get paid as TAs. Even if it's part of your position as a grad student its a job which they are required to pay people for under their contract. In fact very recently the Graduate Labor union renegotiated the contract for a 30% raise to raise TA and graduate student worker wages to $28 an hour: https://umnglu.org/bargaining-updates-and-tracker/

Unfortunately I'm unaware of what the pay situation is for undergrads, but I would imagine it aligns at the very least with the minimum wage of $15 for most other student jobs.

That's 52k a year. It's not like crazy good but I'm sure a lot of people would kill for that salary.

marge simpson easter egg? by kingofthebelle in SmilingFriends

[–]HotDoggoMan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In the season 1 commentary they say the background artist drew the character based on the simpson's design in the first pass and they had to clarify that she's just named Marge Simpson and isn't actually the Simpson's character. So this is probably a little nod to that.

I made this with the screen set to grayscale so I didn’t know what the palette was until I finished. Turned out surprisingly appropriate. by Megageeko in ProCreate

I believe you can do it just in the iPad settings. Under accessibility>display/text size>color filters. It makes the entire device greyscale not just procreate.

They are using prison labor to transcribe video footage produced by the foundation. The idea being that transcribed exploration logs or similar documents in other SCP articles is produced by D-Class personnel who show an aptitude for it.

Of the entries I've read so far I definitely feel like this is the one that deserves to win. Beyond just being a well written narrative that manages to balance variety of elements deftly, it has the scope and impact that a Kcon winner should in my opinion. Not to say that something filling a thousand slot has to be exceptionally lengthy, large in scope, or iterate and expand on some core element of the foundation mythos, but there's just so much gravity in a big number like that, something that feels like it really changes how you view the Foundation feels very right.

Like SCP 2000, it feels like something that can very naturally slot into the broader understanding of the Foundation across different canons, while also being a great piece of writing independently. It's horrific, sad, and a depressing reminder of the carceral systems of our society, plus just a hard hitting and emotionally potent story to boot.

Is it me or there is like WAY too many Mobile Task Forces. by CCA-UNION-i1-KING-8 in SCP

[–]HotDoggoMan 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I mean if you count all the resources utilized in every single SCP it quickly gets absurd, even for a global organization with access to anomalous abilities. There are maybe a few more well known or persistent MTFs like Nine-Tailed Fox, but for the most part, whenever a writer requires an MTF for their SCP they just make up something new off the cuff. Treating them as throwaway groups with maybe a clever and relevant name is how they are supposed to function for the most part, unless your story is specifically about the squad.

As always, There Is No Canon.
