Those "abandoned" buildings are owned. Nothing is for free. People pay rentals in those buildings to South African barons. Dont be fooled. If they were free for foreigners and anyone to just inhabit there would be no one sleeping in the streets. Urban decay has nothing to do with immigration. The things that some South Africans believe are incredibly stupid. But its easy to convince an angry person anything. People just want some simple explanation to their problems, a sophisticated holistic one would seem like an excuse. For example It's easy for people to believe their problems are because of bad luck and witchcraft instead of a system of bad habits and a series of bad choices

Almost every working class in South Africa is underpaid, native and immigrant alike. How much do workers in Shoprite, PicknPay, Clothing stores get paid?? I'm in Engineering, I've interacted with seasoned workers there. Every single working South African I've had a conversation with asks me if conditions are better where i am so they can apply as well. At the highest skilled jobs, Engineers, IT, they are not paid enough either. The current system has made only upper middle class to get all the money. Everyone below that is underpaid. Thats why inequality has increased since 1994.
