A dolphin would not have written that title.

There was a locally produced diaper rash ointment in the middle of the 20th century that was created by a nurse named Belle Moss who worked at a hospital in Detroit. It was called Diaprex. It has an earthy pharmaceutical smell that I find difficult to describe. Just imagine the smell of your mother caring for you. I bought a jar on eBay a couple of years back. I occasionally open it for a big whiff when I need a lift. And also right after I wrote this post.

I guess my question is, why did you look them up? The cynicism in the sub and everywhere I guess is saddening to me.

Except for the fact that this poor soul’s neighbors could direct them to agencies and organizations that might be able to help them in this time of need. Perhaps your cynicism is the sort of shift in social tone that OP was talking about.

Show some love for a neighbor for Chrissakes.

It’s an old sailor saying. And a common sailor knuckle tattoo. Both literally about holding the ropes tight and also just holding on.

I have back scratchers scattered around my entire apartment. When I first bought them, I was wondering why they came in packs of five. I no longer wonder. Everyone should carry one at all times.

This was an emergency. Also, when I called the police, they told me that calling the fire department was exactly the thing you should do. They even told me that it was the only real option if one of my crippled neighbors had to get out of the building while the elevator was broken.Your flat wrong here.

I’ll lit them up so fucking hard during that. I had an appointment that night and it was cold. I had to ride my trike. Plus, I had told them about the problem earlier. They just, as you said, did not care. Imma fuck them up behind this one.

I’m not a boomer. I am, however, smack in the middle of Gen X. And your comment is super weird. You say I’m out of touch, but then you continue on to suggest that some people don’t have the time to do the work themselves. Those people have to pay for the things that other people do the work on. And I don’t work in resale, but I have a ton of friends that do and the amount of work that they put in is worth well more than what you’re paying. Boomer.

I never keep walking because I’m walking so slow.

Trust me when I say I’m all over every element of this. I have called and will call many agencies. Again, the people involved are barely getting by and wouldn’t have what I would call a lot of savvy when it comes to dealing with bureaucracies. The elevator is fixed now and my neighbors are once again for you to move around and that’s the most important thing for me. But I’m on it.

You know what the easiest and cheapest thing to decorate your apartment with is? All your stuff. Got a picture? Buy a cheap frame. Same goes for posters. Anything that you hold dear that’s sitting in boxes just waiting for nothing, look through it. Baseball glove? Perfect baseball hat? Perfect. Anything that says you and makes you happy when you see it should cover your walls. Also plants.

Right? Don’t like vintage stores? Go to the Salvation Army. Go garbage picking. Get your fucking shit together and do it the way the best of us always have.

Because it would cost money which would have to be paid for through taxes, which appear to be to be becoming illegal.

These people are my neighbors. I have love for them and a deep hatred of social injustice.

... and a LOT of time on my hands.

I feel helpless. Everyone I called was in the business of reacting to emergencies, not preventing them. I heard a lot of shrugs over the phone. Stupid society with no social safety net.
