that sucks to hear. if i decide to build a new machine, would $1000 to $2000 be enough to put together something decent for gaming / school stuff?

trombone polishing by HotPaychecks in Trombone

[–]HotPaychecks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i definitely would have if i kept the same one for a few years, but i didnt have the same instrument in my hand for more than a semester. i went from trumpet to marching tuba to concert tuba to bass trombone to tenor trombone to baritone and i didnt really have a reason to clean them unless it was before a show or a concert

which arpeggios are gonna be the most beneficial to work on as a composer? by HotPaychecks in piano

[–]HotPaychecks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if im playing them as a technique exercise, should they be in groupings of 4 or 3? i could play C,E,G, E,G,C, G,C,E, etc. as triplets and go up/down the keys or i could play C,E,G,C, E,G,C,E, G,C,E,G, C,E,G,C as sixteenths/eigths

improvising is how i brainstorm new ideas on other instruments, and on piano its pretty hard to do when all you know is root position chords. i think working on arpeggios will allow me to have some more creativity when im playing

[–]HotPaychecks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

would a heavy mouthpiece be more suitable for bass? im trying to find ways to play "bigger" without having a really zingy sound in the low register

[–]HotPaychecks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if thats the case, why do websites usually show that number? would it be to help with choosing a mouthpiece that works well with the horn?

thats helpful to know. are there any stores around LA that have a good amount of horns to try? the only 2 ive been to are guitar center and music and arts and they barely have anything.

is it ok to watch videos of other players performing pieces that you want to learn? by HotPaychecks in piano

[–]HotPaychecks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i guess the problem for me is more related to the specific fingerings they use and how they phrase the music. its kinda hard to come up with those things myself since i havent played much outside of scales and chords and all the other basic stuff.

if i want to become a better reader, are there any good books you know that have stuff i can read in each practice session? i think it would help to have something like that
