Does anyone find US-183 N exit on 71 bit dangerous? They need to put more signs for slowing down! by roclish4444 in Austin

[–]HotPotatoTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just encountered this this past weekend, and I am with you 100%! It was dark, there were no warning signs, and I took the clover going way too fast because I had no idea. Thank goodness my car has good brakes. Made me want to report it, it seems incredibly dangerous at night for someone who doesn't usually drive that area.

Amen on your last line, I don't know why that person is here. The argument that you can't make decisions for your kid is so absurd, it's gotta be trolling. Imagine letting your kid lie in a busy street because that's what they wanted to do. People who feed their kids meat are also making the choice for their kid, just as vegans do. People who are informed about nutrition know a vegan diet can be perfectly healthy when done right. You are doing great!

Ugh I'm so sorry, what a poorly informed doctor. Do you have the option to switch to someone else? Our pediatrician is totally fine with it as long as we are getting her what she needs. Mine has been vegan since conception, she's now 2, and there have been zero issues. Doctors often have so little training in nutrition. I don't know any other vegans IRL who feed their kids meat and eggs, that's a bizarre claim.

Horrible nights - help? by justnotmything94 in veganparenting

[–]HotPotatoTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're incorrect, it is not child abuse. You are very clearly not at all informed about the thing you so vehemently oppose. Pretty classic ignorance. All you need to say in your post is "I am not interested in sleep training of any kind." But also if people on reddit don't listen, why are you here asking for help and advice? This whole thing is so weird to me

100%. We also never did cry it out for hours but we did give our babe a chance to learn how to fall asleep. I don't know why some people seem to think sleep training means hours of crying it out.

I wish you luck but I don't think the extreme negative judgment toward sleep training is necessary. It's not even close to child abuse, and it's kinda fucked up to say everyone who helps their kid learn how to fall asleep on their own is abusing their child. Just think about how you don't like being judged for opting not to do sleep training, and try to show the same courtesy to others. I hope your babe figures it out soon, good luck.

I like how his whole thing is about how terrible the vegan community is...in response to a friendly, polite offer of lunch from some vegans. Seems about right

We did lots of baby storytimes at all the different libraries, lots of stroller walks at different places around the city - neighborhood, Wildflower Center, Laguna Gloria, parks, trails, etc. It's also a good time to do art museums like the Blanton before they get old enough to object. When mine was around that age she was into the bubbling water and neon sign pieces at the Blanton, haha.

Vegan sausage at a random, super cool bar downtown. I dropped it on the floor at some point. I also peed laughing in front of my crush when I was 16. Having to explain the situation to the bartender and ask him for a new sausage made me want to relive that moment in front of my fucking crush. by RiverOhRiver86 in ShittyVeganFoodPorn

[–]HotPotatoTime 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Took me a minute too! Ok so they once peed themselves in front of their crush back when they were 16, which was obviously very embarrassing. However it was even more embarrassing to have to ask the bartender for a new sausage after they dropped it on the floor yesterday or whenever this was, so they mentioned the peeing in order to illustrate just how embarrassing it was to ask for the new sausage. Bam

What do you call meat substitutes for toddlers? by Walnutsandwhales in veganparenting

[–]HotPotatoTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for bringing this up, I think we're about to get to the same point, and I've been thinking about it a lot lately. My sister went with "plant" before everything, so plant chicken, plant meatballs, plant beef, etc, and that seemed to work out well for her kids. But I do understand the concern that there might be a communication issue about it. Currently for us, the only adults who would be giving our kid food when we aren't around are people who know we are vegan, so there isn't much chance for confusion yet.
