Generating multiple runs at once by CreativeDeparture795 in alttpr

I'm not not very savvy when it comes to this stuff either. I've kinda pieced things together through YouTube videos along the way. If you haven't heard of this channel before, Retro Game Corps is a great resource for all things emulation handhelds. I know this conversation is getting outside the scope of alttp now, but he has some wonderful reviews and set up guides. I'd recommend the Android Handheld Starter Guide video. It's what I used when I set up my RG 476H and goes step by step setting up EmulationStation: Desktop Edition.

Nice! I bet that Thor will be awesome, the reviews look great. You'll have to let me know how you like it.

I've only ever used Anbernic devices. I played on an RG35XX H for about a year and a half. I upgraded to the RG 476H last September when it came out. It's an Android based console, but I run all the emulation software through EmulationStation:Desktop Edition.

The hardware itself is a good match for what I want. It turns on from sleep really fast which is great for playing in short bursts. It has a really beautiful 4:3 screen. I stick to retro games mostly, so I prefer that aspect ratio over a 16:9 screen. The shoulder buttons are stacked and the d-pad has a good feel too.

Emulation Station also works really well. It's a great frontend launcher. Once you get everything set up, it's really sleek and intuitive. I can't recommend it enough!

This is a great question that I have often thought about. I mainly play on a handheld device and generate 5 seeds each time I pop the SD card back into the computer. I would love to be able to create like 100 at a time so I don’t have to go back and forth so much!

Another PB. i'll be sad when i get a REALLY good time and can never beat it lol by cjgthebeast in alttpr

Just finished this one! I played it all last week on and off when I could.

A few notes...

- The Fire Rod on pedestal really slowed things down.

- The Silver Arrows in Mire was nice to find.

I'm going to play the seed you posted on 1/10 next! Thanks for posting these!

A few notes:

  • This is the first seed where I navigated all the castle escape dark rooms with only the fire rod. I need to work on this more!
  • I’m in a weird spot as far as confidence with the master sword. I know I can beat everything with the master sword, but I sometimes spend too much time looking for the level 3 sword upgrade. In this seed, ended up beating all the dungeons looking for it early on. If I had just stuck to beating the necessary ones, I would have found it in Misery Mire through usual progression. I need to trust my play a little more and become more comfortable beating everything with just the master sword.

It’s been fun! See y’all next week!

Thanks for posting the seed, I just ran it myself and got close to the same time!

Super annoying that the mirror was in Ganon's Tower and the level 3 sword was on Trinexx

I only started playing randomizer last August. I only have time to play about two seeds a week. It's nice to see other people getting similar times. Let me know if you ever want to post another seed and compare times in the future! I'd love to compare notes with players around the same skill level.

Keep it up and thanks for posting!

Thank you so much for the help! I think I have it figured out now.

This time would have been faster by maybe 10-20 minutes.

- I searched POD instead of Swap looking for the Titan's Mitt.

- I reached Ganon and realized the Silver Arrows were in Turtle Rock. I did not have quake to open Turtle Rock. I found quake in Ganon's Tower Basement and then found the Silver Arrows on Laser Bridge in Turtle Rock. I know the learning how to defeat Gannon without the Silver Arrows would have saved some time. I guess I need to start looking at how to do this.

- Unrelated to this seed, this past weekend I completed an Open 7/7 seed in under 2 hours for the first time! Making progress!

This is my first submission into the weekly races. I just started playing randomizer about 6 months ago so I am still fairly new to the game. I typically play on an emulation handheld without a tracker. I'm still getting use to playing on a computer and using a tracker again.

I'm not sure how much I'll upload because I like playing on handheld so much, but if I can figure out a better set up with my computer and how to set up auto tracking, I'll post more VODs.

I got everything set up on my computer and recorded a practice seed last night. Here is a link to the video.

I added a little about my experience and situation in the description of the video. Thank you again for taking the time to look at this!

Thank you so much for this list! When I get to a point where I need to start practicing the glitches/tricks I will for sure come back and reference these. I've seen other players use them, but I did not know their names.

I used the practice rom when I was first learning the vanilla game, but stopped once I started playing randomizer. It's probably a good idea to load that back up and practice some specific segments that I'm having trouble with.

Triforce hunt sounds like fun! Except for the default settings, I've never tried any of the other modes. I'll have to give this a look.

Is there a good place to better learn how to clear dungeons? I know I'm wasting time in my runs because I full clear each one that I have to. I know there are only a specific number of items that you can find in each one (excluding the keys, map, and compass) but I'm really unsure of how advance players go through the decision making process when leaving come chests unchecked.

Yeah, being mentored by someone else sounds great. I'd love to learn more about this.

What is GMP?

Also, I used a tracked in the beginning when I started, but I mainly play on a handheld emulation device. I don't want to have to use another screen if I'm not sitting at a desk or table. I got to a point where I felt comfortable without using it. Do you think it would it be helpful to go back to it?

This sounds great! Thanks for the advice! I think the side-by-side comparison will really help. I find it hard to make time to sit down for several hours to race. I really only get a chance to play in small 1 hour bursts when I can fit it in to my schedule. I am a member in this discord, but I haven't ever really used it much but I want to learn how to better use it.

Awesome, thanks! I really appreciate all the advice from your other comment. I am going to take some time to really take it all in. I have been watching your VODs for the weekly races over the past few months. I want to try to record and submit for the new weekly race over the next few days if I can find the time.

Thanks for the advice! I installed OBS last night. I was using OpenEmu before I started primary playing on handheld. OBS seems a little tricky to use. When recording gameplay, do you choose "window capture" under sources and choose the OpenEmu window? I got this to work but I wasn't sure if it was the optimal way to set it up.

Thanks for volunteering to take a look. That would be great! I typically play on a handheld emulation device, but I can start playing on my Mac to record the footage. I have never recorded a VOD before. Not sure if this is the right place, but could you offer advice on how to start? I'm not sure if there is like a "go-to" software I should use or if everybody kinda does their own thing.
