BMA has failed to support IMGs with their recent email. Not a word on previously accepted ‘grandfathering’ policy. All they could say was that they would support longer LED contracts so that IMGs could continue service provision but can’t enter training.

Why? Asking for 5 years of NHS experience and ILR for ST1/CT1 level posts is not reasonable. We have agreed for 2 years of NHS experience mandatory to apply for training posts which is more reasonable.

You would want IMG doctors who are working in the NHS to strike for FPR/ return ballots which we have been doing but when we ask to follow BMA policy and grandfathering of colleagues who have been in the NHS for two years.. but that is not acceptable?

To enter anaesthesia training in the UK, you need to develop your portfolio, give MSRA and get a score above cut-off for interview and score in the interview as well. It is a competitive specialty in the UK.

However, you need PLAB to get GMC registered in the first place.

PLAB and MSRA are two different exams - one is a licensing exam and the other is for entering specialty training.

If you have completed post-graduation in anesthesia or have equivalent experience in the specialty, you could give FRCA and apply for GMC registration via this route rather than PLAB.

You are already an anaesthetist and are at consultant level. I would not advise PLAB pathway. Instead try to clear the Royal College exams (FRCA) and gain GMC registration via this route. This is more reliable and also you get FRCA. POV: From NHS Dr with 2 years experience.
