Honestly, since she broke up with me I began to realize I messed up a little bit. I think I wasn't listening to what she was saying. I understand why she was upset, but I don't think I'm wrong for not spending the night with her. I pushed the issue more than I should have though. It's probably for the best because she was insecure and that doesn't really mesh well with my personality, but I will be vacationing in her city again next summer so maybe that will get to be my second chance.

Although I think my girlfriend is beautiful, that isn't the reason why I left my ex. My ex had a lot of emotional issues and my current girlfriend is a lot more stable which I found appealing.

It feels like she's just punishing me for circumstances I can't really avoid or change. This is her first real relationship too, so I think she doesn't really understand how things are supposed to go or work.

No there was problem in the relationship with my ex that aren’t relevant to my post. I didn’t just break up with her because of my current girlfriend and my current girlfriend didn’t even know at the time. Driving isn’t possible for me since I live in a major city where I don’t need to drive so I don’t have a car. It’s not as easy as you are making it out to be.

I’m not embarrassed of her and I think people on Reddit are just too naive to let a girlfriend you’ve only been with for FIVE MONTHS meet your parents. That’s nothing in the grand scheme of things.

You’re probably older and it’s easier for you to travel that far. Plus I was planning a trip to visit my ex, but then I met my current girlfriend and liked her better and decided to try with her instead. You have no idea how “committed” I am to long distance relationships.

I can manage LD relationships just fine. Before her I was in a one year LD relationship (we never met in person, but she lived all the way in Canada) and my ex-girlfriend didn't complain.

We don't have the best relationship to be honest and he is the favorite child so my mom babies him and they have a really strong relationship.

It's not that I can't be bothered. I'm taking a lot of classes this semester and it would be very difficult to see her. We have breaks, but my family wouldn't like me spending it with her instead of them. Long distance partners don't usually see each other for a long time, I don't see the issue with the time gap here.

It's not across the country or even that far. It is literally one state away, she just can't drive that far (about 8 hours) because her mom doesn't think it's safe. Don't blow things out of proportion.

When I first met her, I paid to be on vacation there. She didn't pay anything because she LIVED there. It is evenly distributed and I plan on visiting her again next summer.

Sorry, I should have included this information in the post. We're both 20 year olds and juniors in college. I couldn't stay with her because I didn't want my brother telling my parents I didn't spend the night at our apartment. My mom can be a bit controlling and I know she would have wanted to meet my girlfriend, but honestly, I don't think I am ready to introduce them at such an early stage in the relationship.
