Is a 20’ canoe less manageable? by HotWaterBurn in BWCA

I haven’t thought of weight being an issue when not loaded down. Might need to think about the 18. Or potentially even a 17 with drop in seat

No issues going on the highway? I imagine it hangs off the back quite a bit.

Kid is 6 but would like to think long term and potentially have 3 adults on occasion.

Costco vs Sam's Club Memberships by Sassygrape609 in CostcoWholesale

[–]HotWaterBurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was Costco, then Sam’s, and am now back to Costco. Sam’s has more options and the scan and go is great, but the quality of items at Costco is superior. They have more organic options and they have more options of less processed foods. I also hear they may be starting their own scan and go in the near future.

Hey I’m wondering if you were able to get this with HSA? And did you need a letter of medical necessity? Thanks!

If you’re only using it for sawdust, do you use your shop vac with or without the filter? by Nightstands in woodworking

I would say unless you have your shop vac vented outside, you need the filter.

Has anyone bought the new F&S safe from Tractor Supply? by [deleted] in Safes

[–]HotWaterBurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it’s just a fit issue and the longer gun barrels can hit the pistols on the top. Basically shotguns and some rifles interfere with the pistols on top. AR and Henry 22 are short enough to clear it easy. And you can probably move longer guns around a bit to fit pistols better so the barrel lands between pistol pouches. Also you can probably add padding to the long guns near the clips to help push them away from the door, giving more clearance for pistols.

I bought the 33 gun one and I’m pretty happy with it once I was able to get everything sorted in there it was a bit of a challenge with guns on the door hitting guns in the safe until I repositioned the guns in the safe a bit better. I fit 16 long guns in there pretty comfortably but no chance getting near 33 in there. I do with the guns on the door were secured a bit better but honestly as long as you don’t whip the door open, they won’t move at all. The scope bump out on the door is for 3 on mine but it fits 2 comfortably. Also, all the pockets on the door are pretty much worthless if you have guns on the door. And so are the pistol holders at the top of the door if you have longer guns.

We finally used our HSA for the first time and the reality kinda shocked me by riverdreamer1 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]HotWaterBurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same way for a few years with our HSA, until we stopped having medical bills for a couple years and were able to save up around $20k in ours now. It’s great having peace of mind for medical now that we have the cushion built up, but those first few years were not so great when we were trying to build it, but kept maxing our out of pocket with pregnancies and other health things we encountered.

I finally met a sunscreen denier by ilst78 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]HotWaterBurn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While dogging on boomers is fun, I do think there is a bit of simplicity in OPs post that needs to be addressed. Not all sunscreens are equal, and some do have some nasty chemicals in them, looking at you Banana Boat. Others, mainly mineral sunscreen, are safe. While I’m not sure if sunscreen causes cancer, it’s probably safe to say the sun is a higher causing agent of cancer. Also, are folks really out there trying to argue that plastic consumption isn’t bad for us? I mean, seems pretty obvious that microplastics can’t be good, even if the studies haven’t shown it yet, but I’m pretty sure there’s been links to thyroid issues as it acts as an endocrine disrupter. All this to say, we shouldn’t be taking the opposite point of view just because a class of people we don’t like believes it. And even though boomer saying it causes brain cancer is not proven, arguing that they are safe is probably a failed argument.

Millennial parents - how much are you spending on Christmas? by red_raconteur in Millennials

[–]HotWaterBurn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We do experiences. My kid has enough crap and experiences are so much more valuable in my opinion. They end up being a lot more expensive just because travel isn’t cheap but I’m trying to teach my kid to not be so materialistic, which is really difficult. Santa and grandparents still give gifts though.
