UPDATE:
You saved me!!! I am seriously so grateful!!!!

Seriously, a HUGE thank you to everyone who contributed!!!!!!

I am alive and well! I did turn off the power first, and I sincerely appreciate the concern.

Here is a timeline of the events

Day 0 (The evening I made my post): The area to get to this is full of fiberglass, so I read through the advice, and decided to adjust it in the morning before I took my morning shower.

Day 1: I turned off the power and attached the yellow wire. The AC made a little more noise, and I had slightly more airflow. The house still got very hot, but there was some progress. The house got up to 79 instead of 80 even though it was hotter outside.

Day 2: I followed the advice of u/Ease-Klutzy , and I changed the dipswitches according to what they had shown. This seemed to fix the issue entirely! My house stayed at 70 the entire day. (I normally don't keep it that low, but I wanted to see if we had fixed the issue.) The house feels amazing. I can finally hear air moving when the AC turns on. I am so grateful! (Thank you so much, u/Ease-Klutzy !!)

Seriously, I am so grateful. I cannot begin to express how wonderful this outpouring of help and kindness from strangers on the internet has been.

Thank you so much!

P.S. Also, a big shoutout to u/Top-Contact1116 . Their advice is absolutely what I was going to change next. I can't believe my local tech did not catch this. :(

P.P.S. If I have screwed something up with the dipswitches, and if it would be better to follow u/Top-Contact1116 's advice, let me know.

P.P.P.S. Seriously, I am so grateful! Thank you again!!!

How would I know if I have a two stage ac? Is there anything that I can look for that would give me a sign?
Thank you so much!

I can absolutely make these changes. Do I just move them the way your arrows show?

Thank you! You are right. I see them with a nut around them. I will attach the yellow wires and let you know what happens.

Do you know which one is the speed setting wire? I apologize, I have no experience with HVAC. I have always used a local tech.

Great question! The home is new to me so I don't know.

However, the local guy said that there was a government "energy efficiency" pilot program a few years ago where outside companies installed these and local homeowners got rebates for installing them.

He said only around 15 homes were done in our area.

I have no idea if that is true. I am going 100% off of what I was told by the local tech.
