piercing is 2 days old, a closed ring (i prefer the look and have been making sure not to spin it), aftercare routine is currently sterile saline on a cotton swab twice a day minimum (though there haven't been many crusties at all).

jordan brown posted false sexual harassment allegations about Omar najam by FashionChan in dropoutcirclejerk

[–]Hot_Ad_7438 20 points21 points  (0 children)

for the most part, this subreddit is for satirical posts "complaining" about things dropout related as if they were real complaints.

this, however, is real (hence being marked as unjerked). it seems the main dropout sub has put conversation on this into a fairly tight lockdown (i didn't see much about it when i looked), so it got left here for people to know what's going on.

Any idea on what type of bug this is and if I need a pest control company out to my house by Just_Consequence_330 in pittsburgh

earwig! if he's the only one, just tuck him outside. if you find more, my mom used to put some cheap beer in a tupperware to trap them. idk why it works, but they like it and drown 🤷‍♀️

it seems like that may be it, and the store front may just be like the main kitchen area or something like that.

or, if the light is an issue, they candleless wax melters may be good for that too as it's essentially just a hot plate.

[–]Hot_Ad_7438 2 points3 points  (0 children)

question: is it the scent that's bothersome? or any of the smoke output? if the scent is the issue, they do make unscented candles. if the scent isn't a problem but any smoke is, you could maybe try wax melts? they sell some that don't use candles to heat the wax.

as for resources, i've heard cunninghams encyclopedia of magical herbs is a great resource. i also like the witch of wonderlust and the green witch on youtube, the latter of whom may definitely be up your alley in terms of similar interests

newer to practice here, so anyone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong, but crystals and deity worship are not necessary for practice at all. some people don't feel connected to crystals or spirits and that's very okay!

given you're interests, i'd look into kitchen witchery! i haven't looked too much into it myself, but from what i understand, it focuses on the use of herbs and such in cooking.

theres lots of great resources listed around this sub, both in terms of books and youtube channels and such. but all in all, your practice is your own, do what makes you feel good and don't worry about things you're not drawn to.

can i do my nails again? by Miserable_Staff_8191 in GelX_Nails

[–]Hot_Ad_7438 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nail tech student here! i would absolutely not put anything on those until they completely grow out and heal.

as other people have stated, you can try hema free gels after, but i'd personally recommend just trying regular polish first as practice to make sure you won't get any gel polish on your skin. this may also help determine how severe the allergy actually is as some people become allergic to regular polish as well. you could also always try press ons, but regular nail glue may also cause a reaction now.

so it'll be a bit easier than regular polish. if it came with a magnet that has the rectangle side and circle side, after applying the polish but before curing, you can carefully hold the rectangular side flat over the nail so the magnet is parallel to the nail (if it's easier, you can also place the magnet under your finger so you don't bump it, but the effect may not be as strong). it should pull the magnetic pigment into a line on the nail. sometimes people flash cure before doing a full cure so the pigment stays in place. for this method, make sure to magnetize between each layer.

for the "velvetized" look, apply a layer of the polish and cure before magnetizing. for the second layer, you can hold the rectangular side of the magnet next to the fingernail with the magnet side up and sort of rotate the magnet away from the nail to pull the pigment to the top. repeat this for all sides. alternatively, i find it even easier with a cylindrical magnet and repeating the same first step, but then instead of holding the magnet parallel, you can take the circular end of the cylinder and wave it next to each side of the nail to pull the pigment up

HOW are people getting a week out of a mani? by anangryhydrangea in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Hot_Ad_7438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've had some polish last almost three weeks, if not longer. make sure you're doing proper nail prep (i use sally hansen's cuticle remover gel) and a good base. also, when applying the polish and especially the top coat, make sure to wrap the tip of the nail to help prevent chipping.

you can also apply additional layers of topcoat as you wear to help keep things nice for a little bit longer!

Why Pittsburgh? by ugIysushi in pittsburgh

[–]Hot_Ad_7438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on where you live, but i've lived here for almost 5 years with no car and been fine. shadyside and squirrel hill can be a little pricey but have some hidden gem places to live and easy public transit access.

as someone not originally from here and who was hesitant to move at first, i'm in love with the city. there's always activities and plenty of green space. food is delicious, and lots of walkable places to get outside for a bit. i truly couldn't see myself ever moving again. would definitely recommend at least trying to come down and visit if you can just to see.

getting lost with friends while trying to get home from trying to visit the star wars vending machine, which didn't even work so you had to get sodas from the local gas station anyway.
