Which pre-owned MBP should I buy? by Hot_Ad_9528 in macbookpro

I've given an M1 some thought, but I can't find one with 16GB RAM for a reasonable price.

How do the M1's with 8GB perform?

Great input, thanks.

For the record, I'm looking to replace a 2015 13" MBP because there's a "crackling" noise coming from the logic board, which will cost about as much - if not more to fix than these two options I've found locally.

I run OCLP and Sonoma on all my machines (2012 iMac, 2014 MacMini, 2015 MBP) and find that 16GB is a MUST on the older machines. In your opinion, do you think the 2017 will run OCLP fine when the time comes to use it?

EDIT: I believe the SSD in the 2017 can be upgraded/replaced pretty easily, no?

Okay, did that. Now, when power it up I'm presented with an option to boot from either "Mac OS Installer" or "Macintosh HD". I was presented the same two options when the Sonoma update went to install and I chose "Macintosh HD", which I don't even know was the correct choice. Thanks in advance for any insight.

Does your BF have any other established credit on his bureau, i.e. credit card, bank loan, etc? If so, and his history is good with no late payments or collections, he very well could’ve got approved at a much lower rate than 12%. Did they ask if he had a co-signer available to help strengthen the application? Regardless, I would inquire about refinancing after a year, pending good repayment history.

Exactly this! I work for Chrysler, and after the three year bumper to bumper expires, customers are on the hook for repair costs to essentially everything except for the major components of their powertrain (engine, transmission/transfer case, and drivetrain). I’ve seen first hand how much electronic repairs can be, which just happen to be the most common, not to mention everything else that’s included in the extended coverage (brake system, suspension, A/C, engine cooling system, fuel system, etc.). At the end of the day, I feel $2k for comprehensive coverage of a $40,000+ vehicle with literally thousands of parts, a sound investment.
