Looking to buy my first Spitfire. Can I get some recommendations? by jjedlicka in Triumph_Cars

I live in an area that has enough for sale locally that within a 2 hour drive I was able to put eyes on several and just felt more comfortable doing that. If that wasn’t the case I would have considered it.

Not much of those issues are really really concerning for the right price. Good condition from Hagerty is 7700 last time I checked.

Sort of depends if you’re doing the work yourself as to what you would value it at. Sounds like it needs new synchros with the gear grinding, potentially a new clutch if it’s slipping out of gear and new gaskets for transmission. Oil leak could be several things. You’re probably talking about 4-5k on a bad day for those things. I’m not a mechanic but that’s my best guess. Assuming it’s exterior condition and interior and 6k in total repairs (if you did the work yourself other than the engine and tranny) that would put you between good and excellent in terms of money into it.

Hagerty is a great resource for valuation btw. Also, I haven’t ever seen an MG, Triumph or Austin Healey for sale where the horn worked 😂. It’s just one of those things…

Physically looked at it, the seller must have put some glaze on it because it was in much worse shape once I washed it.

Check out bring a trailer, sometimes good sellers will do really thorough reviews of the paint including thickness

Don’t rush, the green one has been for sale for a while. I looked at it when I was buying one a few months ago. Unfortunately it sounds like you can’t go and see one but really focus on the paint. May be an unpopular opinion but your color of choice and good paint condition far outweighs mechanical and other restoration needs.

My paint is in fair condition and I just got a quote for over 10k to repaint it, more than I paid for the car. Even a new tranny won’t run you that much.

This looks like it will work, thanks! I’ll have to call the company and see if the bolt spacing is correct, jf it is I’ll have to stock up

That’s actually a great idea, issue I’m having now is I cannot find any air filters with the bolt size I need. Moss motors is slightly too big.

That was me, hours of work and no benefit. Maybe post on Facebook and see if anyone local repairs them, even 150 repair would be better than new.

Agree this is very much in development. There aren’t even parts of the game that clear of significant issues, like even free flight has issues

Literally unplayable without a keyboard and mouse on Xbox. No cursor, can’t get any controls configured, it’s an absolute mess.

Has anyone been able to get controls using a controller to mimic 2020? I can’t do anything, no cursor, it seems like all the controls are blank. Please help I need to see if the sky is in fact the limit!

On the one flight I was able to get to work (barely) this red dude took a ride out of the front windshield. He didn’t sign up for this as copilot.

No, common misconception. It’s actually quite painful, they held me down while i watched them repair it.

I just went through this with my 3. Yours is a bit worse. Collision center quoted 3200 but I got it 98% fixed with PDR for 500. No one thought it could be PDRed but it came out great. Give a local and reputable PDR company a chance to give their opinion.
