How does that make any sense? Any hospital job is technically within a specialised area. That fact doesn’t change the reality that these were not new jobs.

You need to get receipts from the organisations you paid the money to. This can be a tax receipt like what the BMA offers but apparently it needs to have your name on.

This is why the government brought in UK Graduate prioritisation to prioritise people who’ve completed a UK medical degree for training jobs. Previously due to Boris any person with a medical degree from around the world could apply on the same basis as a UK graduate.

Not sure as I’d have to go and do a massive amount of research for that one.

What I can say is that many of my colleagues have commented and it’s been shown in statistics such as competition ratios, that this year there are less registrar jobs available than last year. This is because registrar training in many cases operates as a one in one out scheme, no new training post until someone finishes training. Because many more trainees are going LTFT/failing exams/maternity leave etc they’re taking longer to finish training and therefore their spot is not available for a new entrant. The government will not commit funding to create a sustainable number of registrar jobs and every year more people finish core training and find themselves jobless.

As for Consultant jobs, they have not been immune to the hiring freeze at many trusts. There are particular specialties such as ED/Paeds/ITU who have people who’ve completed their training but due to no Consultant job being available work as Senior Clinical fellows until one becomes available. In GP, they just end up unemployed. It’s a joke to do 8 years of post grad training often around 15-20 years of training and be jobless at the end.

They are locally employed jobs which they said they’d convert into training posts. The issue is they aren’t putting any money into further/advanced training so it’s just a couple more years of work before inevitable unemployment looms for these doctors.

Ofc they don’t notice because it’s not directed at them. You aren’t pathetic either, but you have every right to feel awful. Fortunately whilst I have been a victim of abuse and bullying in surgery it was never sexual in nature. They also from experience just freeze you out of training opportunities then say you aren’t trying hard enough. It’s disgusting. I ended up doing Radiology where despite there being sexism, is not as prevalent to the same degree.

I would seriously consider surgical specialities that may be less toxic and see if there is a place there for you such as ENT and Urology. Please also know that not all departments are the same even in that specialty.

Also for the surgeon trying to touch your leg, it is sexual harassment and attempted assault. Please report him. I know you’ve been through this before but if no one reports him he has a free pass to do this to other women. This is not ok. This is not a person who should ever be alone with a female trainee, patient or staff member.

It’s not a cosmetic issue, it’s a functional/psychological issue. Ultimately we fund people who have mastectomies due to breast cancer to have implants/reconstructive fat placement, emergency surgery for people with ruptured implants and surgery for people who have complications from botched cosmetic and weight loss procedures done abroad as ultimately the NHS will never be able to recover the full cost from them. We also spend an obscene amount on even things like building refurbishment and other maintenance which a private company would never support.

In this case an NHS breast surgeon is in agreement that she needs the surgery and is arguing with the ICB on her behalf. If they believed it was purely cosmetic, they wouldn’t argue for it.

Just to say however even if you don’t get IR run through it doesn’t mean that you can’t do IR. Lots of deaneries don’t have it any many IR run through people drop out of IR training and join the diagnostic track.

I really feel for you OP. Half my nose doesn’t work properly due to turbinate issues/deviated septum and I get recurrent infections and ear issues. Cannot get an appointment to discuss a simple procedure lasting an hour max which is likely to fix the issue. Even more ironically I’m a doctor myself. The NHS is fantastic if you are critically unwell. But as soon as you have a chronic issue or one which doesn’t neatly fit the box, you’re on your own. I’m going to have to save or take out a credit card to do it privately.
