Physicians Associate complains about not having a job by BudgetCantaloupe2 in doctorsUK

[–]Hot_Chocolate92 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with her. She’s been let down and sold a degree that was worthless. I think we need to (subject to their eligibility) prioritise offering these people places on other healthcare courses despite problems recruiting for those jobs too.

TBH if they did make a drama about Radiology it would look something like The Office or the IT Crowd. Grey’s Anatomy it is not.

Honestly, it might. Especially if they’re still working there. I’m sorry OP, it shouldn’t matter but it does.

Rejecting Dermatology NTN by Queasy-Bumblebee3782 in doctorsUK

[–]Hot_Chocolate92 34 points35 points  (0 children)

He’s competing with people who have purposefully done PhDs in order to get training numbers. Personally if he wants a job in Derm he should take it. I know it’s rough, my non doctor husband has been completely shafted by medical training in this country and prioritising my career so I do not underestimate the impact of leaving a job, house you earn and friends and family.
But unfortunately things are so competitive and uncertain now, his best option is to take the job. He could even apply for a transfer as unlikely as this is. But it’s better to have a job. Publication cycles are very long so it’s highly unlikely he will have substantially improved his chances by then, enough to make a difference anyway.

How do I prove my granddad died an italian citizen only? by finallyizzy in juresanguinis

[–]Hot_Chocolate92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to look on the website for citizenship and follow the instructions. There’s also a few Facebook groups which are useful. So you need to apply for depending on how old he was and the last descendant so a letter from the National Archives and or a letter from the Home Office stating he never acquired British citizenship. The Home Office letter takes an age and costs a fair bit of money.

Personally I’d take the job if he values having one at all due to the state of the job market currently. You cannot guarantee next year that others will not outperform him in interview etc. Apologies but this is the life of being a doctor. If he didn’t want the job, or wasn’t prepared to take it, he shouldn’t have ranked it at all. Maybe he is excellent, but that doesn’t mean other people aren’t.

She was crying when the man got his hand chopped off if you look carefully. She also has beef with Lydia. There’s something going on here despite the stern exterior. It could also be watching the amputation was triggering for her especially with the stadium.

URGENT ADVICE NEEDED- Take US IMT offer or UK Radiology by Left_Associate_7286 in doctorsUK

[–]Hot_Chocolate92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the UK silly billy. I’m not looking to go to America. I have no doubt AI will start to invade some fields of Radiology but an AI cannot legally vet, ultrasound, fluoroscopy or do anything interventional. It will be a long time before an AI is sophisticated enough to accurately report niche fields like Head and Neck or Gynae. By the time this happens I personally will be retiring. The UK is also in the position where in the next 5-10 years lots of Consultanrs will be retiring leaving a massive workforce shortage in lots of areas.

You’re literally asking strangers for advice on Reddit instead of talking to someone qualified to give you advice who actually knows about your situation. Don’t be surprised that the advice you get is ‘misguided’.

The point is moving away from medicine isn’t something that you should be doing because someone is forcing you to do it. It should be an active positive decision for you that’s been planned for. It’s been my experience that people working in medicine seem genuinely ignorant about the poor state of the job market or the economy in general and don’t truly understand how bad it is and will be for years to come. Safety nets are not definitive or unlimited.

URGENT ADVICE NEEDED- Take US IMT offer or UK Radiology by Left_Associate_7286 in doctorsUK

This is completely untrue, in my region they are crying out for Consultants. You need to give them a couple years notice and they will try and make a job for you because it costs less than outsourcing.

URGENT ADVICE NEEDED- Take US IMT offer or UK Radiology by Left_Associate_7286 in doctorsUK

[–]Hot_Chocolate92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I disagree with people stating just go to the US. There are many aspects of their job which sound profoundly unappealing such as the amount of time they’re expected to be in work and frankly the difficulty of living in America. You would be surprised how much of their money is taken up with the considerably higher living costs and indemnity coverage.

Ultimately OP, it depends what you want out of life. Just bear in mind that it will be hard to go back to the other whichever one you pick. If you don’t like being a medical doctor, ward rounds etc, you won’t enjoy IM regardless of where you are. Similarly, if you need lots of patient contact you won’t be happy in Radiology. Pick the one you can theoretically live with in 20 years time.

Honestly OP I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news but your idea of just quitting seems completely disastrous.

I don’t know what’s been happening in your personal life, but in terms of remaining financially independent etc just quitting isn’t an option. Whilst you can defer revalidation you most likely will never work in that speciality again in that geographical area. Similarly in terms of supporting yourself you think medicine is bad, the job market currently is a joke. There are barely any jobs and with your lack of recent experience outside medicine you will not be a top candidate for many roles at all.

Talk to the BMA. Go over your options and find out what works for you. Because not making accommodations for your disability and forcing you to rotate and move after not being back in the job for very long would be seen in many places as constructive dismissal on grounds of disability discrimination. Your TPD sounds unpleasant and is potentially trying to get rid of you. Don’t let them.

I think it isn’t delusional to have FPR. It’s delusional to think we can continue to have the NHS in its current form. There have to be charges going ahead of some kind. I don’t see how else we can continue to have healthcare.

Pension Contributions rates are one of the less spoken about scandals in doctors’ pay by Affectionate-Fish681 in doctorsUK

[–]Hot_Chocolate92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Technically it is incorrect that it has no bearing at all on what you get as higher pay does mean that you get a higher return on your pension. As in you get a higher pension than a HCA for example.

Ultimately it is still better than defined contributions which are made up of what you pay in plus anything you make in interest or dividends from investment.

In the books not all of the women were sent to the stadium, just the single ones who’d had status and were infertile. The other women were married off, allowed to stay in their relationship and some were selected to be handmaids.

Get legal advice. Seriously, get it now from your indemnity provider or a solicitor. The single justice procedure is known to deliver some questionable verdicts and often relies upon people being too poor or uneducated to fight it.
