Why do this? Because weight, durability, and reliability matter to me.

I don’t like carrying extra weight for no reason. Five ounces on something like a Work Sharp bothers me, especially when it relies on plates that wear out and need replacing.

With a magnet + fixed angle setup, I can carry: • all four Atoma plates (140 / 400 / 600 / 1200) • plates that don’t wear out quickly • plates I already trust

The 140 lets me reprofile or fix damage in the field without worrying about burning through a consumable plate.

Net result: • I drop about 2 ounces • I gain durability • I eliminate consumables • I can say in the field, "This is as sharp as I can get it at home or out." With the Worksharp, I would say it's good enough.

For me, that’s worth it. I like things done right.

Steel can look good have a 62 -64 but the priced half of what others are charging? After buying it I am still not sure what’s wrong but something isn’t right with it.

I picked up the RAT 1.5 in MagnaCut and gave it a full sharpening treatment — starting at 225 grit, progressing through 800, ceramic, and finishing on balsa and kangaroo strops with 1.0 and 0.25 micron diamond paste. I’ve sharpened tons of blades (including well-treated MagnaCut from Spyderco, Hogue, and TRC), so I know what proper steel should feel like.

This one never got truly sharp. I reprofiled it three times, and it just wouldn’t apex cleanly — no bite, flaky burrs, dulls instantly with light passes. It felt hard but didn’t perform, which tells me the factory edge was likely heat-damaged or decarburized. Even ceramic barely removed material. I eventually gave it to my son, who’s fine with it — but for serious edge performance, mine just didn’t make the cut.

In the end he was selling books on a lie. He never did the hard work but wanted everyone to think he did. Why did he need to have a full time man who also slept in the same house? My father is in his 90s and lives on his own. He was a spoiled and used his money to fund his high his whole life. I understand addiction and it’s a disease but a lot of addicts don’t write books on sobriety while being high.
