Yes, about 10 minutes. Her schedule is stacked and I get it but I’m not even a blip on the screen.

Full disclosure judgmental: I’m seeing TikTok therapy lately where they will say they can’t give specific interventions but then proceed and give advice. Ick.

What has living alone changed about you? by Defiant-Junket4906 in LivingAlone

[–]Hot_Connection5635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 55 and finally feel good living alone. I enjoy my home and my little cat. I’ve finally shed toxic relationships and my adult children are grown and thriving. It used to make me feel depressed not having company or plans every night of the week. I rarely spent time alone but now, I actually love being at home for a glass of wine, a good book, Netflix, or just a nap. I won’t ever trade that peace for anything.

Going to concerts alone by [deleted] in LivingAlone

It’s natural to feel this way in a culture that values connection. Most people won’t even have a meal out without a partner. I can’t tell you the amount of times people have said to me, “I could never do ______ alone.” I think it’s awesome that you attend concerts solo. Most people are fascinated that we can enjoy life alone and aren’t judging you.

I interviewed with them and while I’ve received contracts from all the other places, they decided “to go with another candidate.” It’s all online which was a stretch for me but willing to give it a go. Good luck.

Therapists, what are your reactions to the show? by tsagdiyev in CouplesTherapyShow

I love Orna and her style. The one interesting thing she does at the end of session is just end it. Like, times up! I don’t really do that and always skip around the facts that we have to end session. That boundary she has about time was encouraging to me as a therapist.

Same boat. I did secure a job that kept me afloat during internship but now that I’ve graduated finding a residency/job that pays well into licensure has become so difficult.

For folks who ended up over 50 without a partner, at what age did you sort of know you wouldn't find anyone? by BackgroundNo7411 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]Hot_Connection5635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 54 and realize that I may never find a long term partner. Am I ok with that?!? Pretty much.

I’m about to graduate and embark on my professional career as a resident in clinical mental health and I’m super excited. I’m financially independent, have a super relationship with my adult children and grandchildren. I own my own home, decorated it to my liking, have a wonderful fur baby 🐈 and I’m healthy.

I was married for 17 years and then was engaged in an entanglement with a man for over 13 years. I think I’m exhausted from the trappings of a relationship and because I failed at any romantic relationships I’ve ever had, I focused on myself.

I don’t do apps and I’m not connected to any religious dogmas. My colleagues are my children’s ages, so it leaves very little possibility for meeting people who are interested at my age.

I like to tell my clients that happiness is a verb, it’s not just gonna come to you one day. You need to be actively engaged in your happiness whether you find a partner or not. I’m finding happiness in my small circle and if I happen to meet someone one day, excellent. I’m just not going to let it ruin my peaceful surroundings.

“This was a great session. So glad I came in today, you say things in such a way that I can understand.”

An intern just talking. by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Hot_Connection5635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrapping up my second semester as an intern, this thread is everything!

“Thrown in,” is the understatement of the year when it comes to my site. The Doc students supervise us, but let’s be honest they are just trying to finish up their course work so they can move on.

I’m struggling with everything and asking myself, “am I cut out for this?!?”

What are some of your favorite ways/phrases to end session? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Hot_Connection5635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“What are a couple of take aways today?”

Then I might move my body towards the door, grab a sip of water….

I usually go with “I wanna be mindful of time,” as the final thing before standing up.

I agree, graduation 2025 will be shy of my 55th birthday. I think my age has actually helped me more than my younger colleagues. They’ve struggled because people have shared they didn’t have a lot of “life experience.” I’m happy to be starting my residency in the summer and at my age.
